So, to help explain 'Rule 34' "if it exists, there is porn of it. No exceptions" to Ysabet, I headed over to Encyclopedia Dramatica to read 'The Rules of the Internet' to her.

.... I really need to stop perusing ED. Especially when it brings up interesting bits like:

New Zealand Fail Guy.

The picture was taken 6 blocks straight down the street from where I used to live in Christchurch. (dude, what happened to the Coffee Culture? I'm not seeing it)

No idea what was going on, don't recognising anyone, but then I've always been better at places instead of faces, so to speak. ....Unless the Kiwis on my f-list know who they are-? #^^#

So, for those of you who are not interested in internet memes: Cartoon S&M Cow Milking.

A few of my friends and flatmates took part in that protest, but they left before the pic was taken. I'm pretty sure they met Fail Guy at some point though...

There's a few more pictures in the archived 4chan threads (http://www.encyclopediadramatica.com/New_Zealand_Fail_Guy#See_Also), of the group closer to the Cathedral, and one of them in front of the Cathedral with more people, including a guy dressed up as Superman.

Somehow, was wondering if KAOS was involved. How well did the protest go, do you know? *Is still hazy about the Anon vs Scientology protests*

There were maybe a dozen people involved overall - all the participants I knew are also Kaos members, and there were a handful of others too. The local organiser took the 'anonymity' deal pretty seriously, so they didn't really do formal introductions...
Compared to the protests in other major centres (http://www.news.com/8301-10784_3-9869003-7.html), it was basically a non-event, but that's not surprising considering that Scientology's effectively a non-presence here. But nonetheless, some fliers were handed out, there was minor coverage n the local media - for those involved, I guess it was pretty cool to be part of the worldwide protests.

Rule 34 amuses me ENORMOUSLY. And yes, I really *did* see a Mister Roger's Neighborhood skit that could pass for porn, so it's not an exception.

But you know, I had a thought: what about a series that starts out as porn, like 'La Blue Girl' or any of the Overfiend dreck? If porn is taking something that was originally not overtly sexual and then placing it in a sexual context, would porn of existing porn actually be porn?

Discussion tiiiiiiime! There will be a quiz afterwards!

That definition of porn is, by its own argument, wrong. Since things like "La Blue Girl" are overtly sexual originally, and they are called porn, porn cannot be defined as something that is not originally sexual. (With some exceptions: tentacles, turkey basters, handcuffs, etc.) So porn of existing porn is still porn. It's just not fanon-only. ^__^v

Hmm; okay, I'll buy that. But one of porn's more valuable and attractive attributes is its shock-value and the breaking of boundaries; when you create porn of something that's already porn, would you need to go the other direction to make it shock-worthy? As in, a nonsexual version of the Overfiend stuff? (Wow, I just imagined a scene with a bunch of the characters standing around looking very, very bored. Not much to do in that case, considering that the plot was about 2% of the entire thing.)

You could write non-sexual, non-violent fic of a hentai or porn flick just as easily as you can write schmoopy romance for a shounen retard anime. (I'm not entirely sure how, but it must be possible. Rule anti-34 or something.) However, you cannot by any means call it porn -- since porn is defined by sexual content -- or expect it to have shock value (except by way of "omgwtf did we see the same show who are these people", as illustrated by PyramidHead fluff and the rants about it on lj comms).

XD So-- what WOULD you call anti-porn? nrop? norp? I kind of like 'Norp'. **amused**

Gen. *deadpan*

No, I would really call it Rule 43, except it turns out that one is "Hahaha disregard that, I suck cocks" which is entirely against the point. Maybe Rule 4:30?

Date: 2008-04-30 06:00 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] ysabet.livejournal.com
No, Rule 4:30 is "Nobody does any work at this point of the day, because in a half hour we get to go home."

Date: 2008-04-30 06:31 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] joisbishmyoga.livejournal.com
Huh, thought it would be something like "Rule 4:30, because if we can't fuck yet neither can anybody else".

From: [identity profile] ysabet.livejournal.com
**snicker** Well, but I'm at work. Going home sounds way more attractive right now than anything else. >_>...

So when's "we can't fuck yet so neither can anybody else"?

*During* work, I'd think, unless the people involved have keys to the storage room.

Bugger.

I was trying to show Ysabet where everything was in the photos, but kept getting thrown off by the lack of Coffee Culture, just seeing Glassons.

Thanks!
