LJ Content Strike
I'm sure some of you have heard of it, and some of you haven't. See the above link and links within.

Basically: no posting, no commenting, no content on LJ on 21 March.

Yeah, I'm sure it won't do much in the long run. Don't really care.
Honestly? I don't want to give revenue to a company I don't trust. And after the whole thing with end of basic accounts, the censorship of popular interests and the over all contempt of LJ users by the new owner all within the past week, doing -something-, even a minor act of defiance, feels good.

I've currently got four other tabs up, researching various ways to transfer [livejournal.com profile] impfics over to my insanejournal account, hopefully with tags. So far I've found lj-migrate, which seems more complicated than it needs to be and LJ-sec, which I would have to download extra software onto a borrowed computer, which I am loathed to do.
Does anyone have any recommendations for programs to use for transferring journals?

We have an insanejournal account because several of the BNF authors that we follow and some friends are already over there. And that was the reason for joining LJ, was the people.

-if ficcage is done before this weekend, you'll find it over on the insanejournal account. ^^;; This'll be our last post for a while.

[EDIT: We are just looking into transferring our ficblog [livejournal.com profile] impfics at this time. We have no plans to move [livejournal.com profile] ickaimp right now. Relax people! ~_^]

Let me know if you find a user-friendly way of migrating...lack of a means of transitioning is the big reason I haven't made the switch yet. Even if I just end up multiposting to my journals on multiple services, it would be nice to have my older postings from LJ, for instance, available on IJ in case I decide to dump LJ completely.

Have you looked into Semagic (http://semagic.sourceforge.net/) or Xjournal (http://sourceforge.net/projects/ljkit)?

They are supposed to be able to cross-post, to make things easier for if you do have multiple journals.

... there was a reference somewhere for backing up with Xjournal, but I'm not currently on a Mac. *Whimpers*

I've been using Semagic (when I remember) to cross-post between LJ and JF, but I haven't found a way to transfer old posts.

....your IJ account link is dead.

That being said, I'm glad you're over there too! I know we don't talk much, but I love reading your posts. :)

Fixed! Thanks! Forgot the first " in the code. #^^#

((Huggles)) There's only a few people I know over on ij, but the ones I do know are there, I'm always glad to see. ^_____________^

In some ways I'm glad about that too -because I feel like those I know on LJ I don't really know anymore because we've grown apart.

*adds now she has the link and hugs back*

*sigh* I'm staring at my IJ account, trying to remember how I met all the people I met on LJ. It seems sort of lonely over there. Any thoughts from the master? *gg*

CALL ME QUEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEN

*coughs* sorry. flash back to some of my early anime. #^^#

Um... as far as meeting people, one person at a time. Gathered them up slowly. #^^#

Hmm... mebbe I should make a DC comm over there, for us lonely souls.

...is that a Miyuki-chan in Wonderland reference? :O Cracked anime, but had some damned catchy music.

Ehehe...I'm socially inept ^^;; You've seen it first-hand XD But yes, will take to heart. And it doesn't seem that there are a ton of fandom comms over there yet, period--at least not the series I've been looking for. Might help people find each other?

If you do, let me know, I think I'm about to vacate both LJ and FF.N in a huff (thank god for my own domain, I'd never have anywhere to move to without it)

I've an IJ account too, just never used it. "Just in case", I said. Awfully tempting to migrate over, though.

But man, all those posts...

Makes me wish that I'd bought a Permanently Insane account back when they were $13, though.

That's why I'm looking for an easy way to transfer the files. Impfics had over 120 posts last year alone and I don't wanna transfer them all over one by one.

.... transferring Ickaimp quite frankly scares me, I do a lot more posting here than I do of fics... And I've had it for about five years. @_@

Yeah, kinda wishing I had known about the latest perm sale for InJ....

I don't post or comment much, but I'll definitely support this... *plans to follow if you move because you have awesome fics*

I'm of several minds on this whole thing, but then when aren't I? We can talk about it later because I really don't want to try to write everything down. Too many other things to do.

I just used LJ-Sec to copy my lj over to ij. It seems to work pretty well, but didn't copy over any of my tags, which was really frustrating. I'm not sure if there's a way that it will keep tags or not, but just thought I would give you a report on it!

Dude, what really needs to be boycotted are pageviews. No *viewing* LJ, either.

This won't do any good, but...I might participate anyway. Just to do -something-. I saw it mentioned on some rebellion-leader's journal that one of the primary reasons for not leaving LJ is lack of time, and I think that's really true. I know I'd be gone, and posting via an RSS feed, if I had the time to set up my InsaneJournal and everything else associated with it.

At the same time, the most use of LJ that I make is my friends page, and I am a big commenter; and I'm not willing to stop commenting on my friends' pages, so...how much of a difference can I really make?

I transfered all of Thoughts (my LJ, over 600 posts) using LJArchive. I can megaupload the program if you want.

It's SUPER easy and if IJ supports uploading of XHTML (I think that's the format, it starts with an x) then it's easy peasy (It's how I transfered everything to Memoirs of a Nobody
