They were saying (that in NZ at least) that a sasuage must be a minium half fat-free meat, half again that amount fat can be fat.
They never stated what the remaining 25% can be.

But if it is not 75% meat, then it is considered '(what ever animal) meat flavoured'

So, um, yeah.

**shudders** I remember that there was a quote somewhere about "anyone who is fond of sausages or justice should never watch either one being made." So long as I don't find fingernails or suchlike in 'em, I think I'll expect ANYTHING in sausages. 'Long Pig' might be the least of my worries (I wonder if sausage glows in the dark?)

I remember from my US history class how one of the things that prompted the creation of the FDA was a newspaper article about how they made sausages. First, they'd let random dropped scraps accumulate on the floors of meat packing plants, then if rats came, they'd put poisoned bread out. Afte that, they'd sweep it all up and stuff it into sausages. Prez Roosevelt threw his sausages out of the whitehouse window when he read that.
