tdei, kaitou_ann, dogmatix_san, they've got some of your artwork posted as well as some of mine. I've asked that it be taken down (go all the way to the end, page 30)
They posted some of my Hakuba art in an earlier thread. >_< They took it down when I asked, then started up this thread for Kaito fanart. *thuds head on desk*
The general mentality is 'oooh! lookit the pretty I found!!'. Blargh.
I prolly wouldn't be as pissed off about it if it wasn't the frikkin' Mods who were posting some of the art.

Which is currently in pieces because of the recent move.
Changing the folder name changes all the links on my site. The software to do this quickly and painlessly is on my computer.
They're taking artwork from various sections on my site, meaning several folder changes and over 300 links on multiple pages that I'd have to track down and change manually if I changed the folders name. Unless I just wanna make all artwork inacessable to everyone.
Which isn't worth it because a couple of people are being stupid.
*sighs* Will be putting my computer back together tomorrow, see about giving myself a headache so I can do HTML (can only do html when either in pain or brainfried >_<), making the changes and re-uploading in a few days.
Besides, it's not just my art they're taking. There's also japanese fanart and some from Kaitou.net.
Them stealing from my site doesn't piss me off nearly as much as them stealing from my friends. >{

I've had problems/flames before when pointing out that using other people's art without asking is theft, which is probably one reason why I reacted as strongly as I did.

No, you're perfectly right. Whinging isn't going to work.
But pointing out what they're doing is wrong, rude and illegal may help prevent it in the future. As it's been stated, most people aren't aware. Now they are.
Posting someone else's art is pretty rude, yeah, but since when does anyone give a crap?

I do have my own site. It's called Mischif.net. That's where the art was being taken from.
And look up copyright law as far as legal documentation. I also have the orginal paper sketches with dates on them to prove that it's mine.
And unless I miss my mark, I just did something about theft.
If you do that, then you can SUE whoever takes your art without your permission.
If worse comes to worse, don't have to. The States tend to be a rather sue-happy nation, which is not a trend I care to continue.
Asking people is usually enough.
And if it is not, can simply contact the person's server, point out that they're posting art that is not their own and the server will shut them down. Posting stuff, be it fanart or fanfiction without the creator's permission is illegal.
But even then, you may as well just cope 'cause people will always find a way to take what they want, legal or not.
Also true and a very sad fact of life. Distruction is always easier than creation. But that doesn't stop people from creating, does it?

Which means later, when people want to make sites and are looking for art, they'll usually take the art without anyone's name on it (which is why mine says 'mischif.net' on it). Or in some cases, edit the signature out.
Unfortunately, this does happen. *sighs*
There's quite a bit of art by a japanese artist named 'Persia' on the english net with no credit to her at all, because someone posted Persia's art without crediting her.
It was also draining bandwidth from my site, which I have to pay for. >_< So people posting my images to the message board costs me money.
It is also a bit of a legal issue. Fanart and fanfiction is a derivative creation, which means that if the Authour or creator of the characters asks me to stop, I have to. But unless the creator of the characters says something, the creations (fanart, fanfic) I put time and effort into are legally mine.
If a host (such as proboards) hears that you are posting someone else's creation without permission, they can and will shut down the site.
To my understanding, in Japan, you're not even allowed to post copyrighted work, such as art you'd scan from a manga to decorate your site, the site would be shut down. Which is why you have so much fanart on Japanese sites. #^^#
And also the reason that with the exception of images we've been given, such as banner links and gift art (we asked if we could host everything in the 'Treasure' section), we've created all the images. Including the backgrounds.
So I was angry because I was not asked, because people do not know who drew the art (not just mine, but all the fanart that wasn't credited), because it hurts my website and because it could potentially kill the message board, who has a lot of really nice people on it that we like.
And I am sorry for the trouble I caused the moderators. But as people have commented, most of the people doing it did not know until something was said. ^^;;
