Fanfic Recs?

Okay... we only have a little bit left of internet access before we have to go back to hit and run attacks at the libary.
So we're looking for ficcage to download and save on our 'puter at home to read at a later date.
Anyone have any favourite LONG fic they'd like to recomend? Slash or gen, doesn't matter what the paring is as long as it's well written.
Um... current series we've been reading:
Due South, Harry Potter, The Sentinel, Stargate SG-1, Xena, FullMetal Alchemist or just about any Anime series really... ^^;; As long as we're familiar with it. And if we're not familiar, we'll get familiar. >D

Date: 2005-01-08 12:31 am (UTC)Great. I'm bored and you asked for lengthy fics? ^.^" Well, here's quite a number of them. If you've read any of them, just skip those. ^.^"
Harry Potter:
Prongs Rides Again (http://www.fanfiction.net/s/386953/1/) - Really good James-comes-back-to-life fic. ^.^"
Dimelo (http://www.fanfiction.net/s/468136/1/) - Forget why I have this one. Need to reread...hm...
Of Western Stars (http://www.fanfiction.net/s/662406/1/) - Need to reread this one, too...>.< AU...has Sirius escaping Azkaban prematurely and saving 5-year-old Harry from abusive Dursleys...
Changing Face (http://www.fanfiction.net/s/891047/1/) - One of those Harry-runs-from-the-Wizarding World ones...actually kind of interesting to read. ^.^"
The Persistence of Memory (http://www.fanfiction.net/s/701800/1/) - AU Post-TriWizard tournament. Harry disappears and Remus and Sirius find him again when he has amnesia.
No Higher Praise (http://www.fanfiction.net/s/711272/1/) - One of THE best HP fics out there, IMHO. Another James-comes-back-to-life with some twists! Not a happy-go-lucky reunion for James, Harry, and the others.
Charmed Curses (http://www.fanfiction.net/s/595372/1/) - Yet another James-comes-back-to-life fic. Another of the best in HP fics, in my opinion at least ^.^"
Fugitive Prince (http://www.fanfiction.net/s/819102/1/) - AU. Harry's parents stayed out of the war and had another son, who everyone believes is the one that defeated Voldemort. Harry let's them believe it too...
Cowboy Bebop:
Suicide Is Stainless (http://www.fanfiction.net/s/1261768/1/) - Another I need to reread. Good fic.
Backwards Brain Warp (http://www.fanfiction.net/s/1626533/1/) - Quite the comedy by the best Cowboy Bebop Comedic fic author. Awesome Spike-characterization and a weird situation that made me laugh a lot.
Ain't Afraid To Die (http://www.fanfiction.net/s/1317477/1/) - THE BEST Cowboy Bebop fic. Not complete and is at a cliffhanger at the moment if I remember correctly. Spike coming back after the end of the anime show. ^.^"
Dementis (http://www.fanfiction.net/s/948499/1/) - same author as Backwards Brain Warp. This time it involves Spike and a phyciatrist. ^.^"
Final Fantasy:
A Knight of Spira (http://www.fanfiction.net/s/1004509/1/) - O.o' Really hard to discribe. Good read if you liked FF7/8.
Fruits Basket:
Strange Happenings (http://www.fanfiction.net/s/1508457/1/) - One of the charas are dead, but we're still not sure if that's going to last long ^.^"
Jyuunishi no Enkei Monogatari (http://www.fanfiction.net/s/667910/1/) - I think the title tells you a bit about it. Basically Ina-chan's version of how the Soumas were cursed by the Zodiac.
Fumei no Musubi (http://www.fanfiction.net/s/1126017/1/) - Kind of the acting sequal to Jyuunishi no Enkei Monogatari ^.^" How the past effects the present.
...@.@ Okay...I'm done. Sorry if I just posted a bunch of stuff you've already seen. If you need anymore, feel free to ask. @.@ So many fics...

Title: Coexistance
By: Darkcyan
Fandom: Harry Potter
Genre: AU, shounen-ai hints, post-4th year

Writer: Twig

Genre: Slash mostly
Comments: I only really read her CCS, FF7, Shadow of Destiny and Evangelion series. One of my favorite fanficcers. ...half of those series I mentioned are video game series... Don't know if you played them though.

Title: Poles Apart
Fandom: Megaman X (with a side of Megaman, the original series)

Writer: Alanna and... I'm forgetful of who is (are) the other(s)
Fandom: Various...

Genre: AU, Slash, the likes.
Comments: She writes good, some of her stuff are and mostly will remain WIP. Good writer, am a bit iffy on her personality.

Series you should get familiar with:
Death Note (http://www.directmanga.com/series/deathnote.html) - by the same artist as Hikaru no Go. Yay.
Rising Impact (http://www.directmanga.com/series/risingimpact.html) - if only to mock the golf. And Lancelot. Gods, I want to mock Lancelot...
I'd almost suggest Prince of Tennis, but that's a 150+ series and the fangirls with their crack pairing scare me some. *clings to Tezuka/Echizen-crack :P* It takes very long to dl that many episodes off IRC... if you ever do visit IRC... Even longer by bittorrent.
Another few I'd suggest are Fruits Basket and Tactics, but both are licensed so you'll either have to be sneaky or be a good girl and do what Hakuba would prefer you to do. *nods*
I think that'd be more than enough, ne?

Date: 2005-01-08 12:56 am (UTC)Title: Howl's Moving Castle
By: Diana Wynne Jones
Genre: Fantasy
Comments: Sure... it was written for tweens(? 9-14 age range), but it's hilarious and well worth it. Miyazaki-sensei's made an anime out of it this past November.
Series: Last Herald-Mage trilogy
By: Mercedes Lackey
Genre: Fantasy, slash
Comments: You might wanna get the first book (Magic's Pawn) and read that before moving on to the others. See if you like it.
Oh and... another anime recc... Kyou Kara Maou (commonly referred to as 'KKM' by the lazy and 'Maruma' by the Japanese fandom [I like 'Maruma' better. Less confusion with other series]). It's so wacky. I think you'd like it very much.
Re: Oh and...
Date: 2005-01-08 01:19 am (UTC)Just got started on KKM (Yeah, you're right, Maruma sounds better), have episodes 1-15, but only saw the first one. Was laughing so hard throughout it. ^^
Waiting to drag either MOrgan and/or Ysabet into a marathon of it. Perversion is always much more fun as a group activity.
Thanks!

Date: 2005-01-08 05:34 am (UTC)All of the following are very well-written, very plot-oriented fics. Characterization is solid throughout, humour is interjected accordingly, and angst (if present) is used as it should be. They're all awesomely good, the top of their game. All of them are 15+ chapters, except for the 2 HP humour fics, which are 10-ish.
Harry Potter
After the End - THE epic post-Hogwarts story, written Pre-OotP, with in character characters, plot twists, and Ron/Hermione romance. A must read for ANY HP fan. It's about the characters and their lives after Voldy's death and what Harry does now that his "purpose" is complete. Lots of angst, laughs, and UST/RST.
Bury the Hatchet - Epic HP fic, post-Hogwarts, about a mystery. Hermione, who hasn't had contact with her mates in years, is an accomplished professor at Hogwarts when her neat little life is turned upside-down. Toss in an ailing Dumbledore, petrified students, and a thrilling mystery that would make Conan proud, and you have a winner!
The Goddess Diaries - silly story based on Meg Cabot's Princess Diaries series. Basically, Hermione finds out she's actually a Goddess of Mount Olympus. Things go downhill from there. It's cute, it's funny, it's hilarious.
Miss Hogwarts - When Hogwarts decides to host a beauty pageant for charity, the prefects decide to up the ante by adding a twist - the contenders will be drag queens. Really funny, solid plot, and enough UST to butter your toast with. Primarily an H/G fic with some slashy-toned moments.
The Legend of Zelda
The Return - The BEST Zelda fic out there. 42 chapters, awesome characterization, a plot that will keep you guessing; it's all there. The best part is, you don't have to have played the game; the story is self-explanatory. Great OCs, wonderful voice, and perfect use of snark. I highly reccomend this story. You'll be hooked. And it's complete, and the sequel's in the works. And that more than lives up to the original. Essentially, it's a retelling of Ocarina of Time, but it's not the normal, bland kind. I love this story; I can't stop raving about it.
Inuyasha
Anything by Rozefire is just awesomely good. Most of her work is long (I"m talking 1000 pages typed) and AU, so you don't have to be following the anime / manga at all. I personally reccommend 28 Days, Soul Exchange, Bottled Genius, and Dead Famous. Give her a try; her stuff is REALLY good, IMHO.
Also, there's Beast, a re-telling of Beauty and the Beast, except with time-coninuum vortex issues, a dead Naraku, a Kikyo ghost, an alive Kohaku, and Sesshomaru's kids. Humour, angst, mild mystery, angst, darkish themes, angst, and drama. Did I mention angst? But it's good angst, not cheesy angst. It's good, I promise.
I can give you a few Kenshin and a Slayers rec or two. All you must do is ask.
Cheers, Icka. <3
erm...
Date: 2005-01-08 08:18 am (UTC)Lori Summer's Paradigm of Uncertainity and sequels (http://www.schnoogle.com/authorLinks/Lori/) - Nine years after graduating from Hogwarts, Charms fellow Hermione Granger again finds herself caught up in Harry Potter's mysterious life. (called the H/Hr bible by many, like the H/Hr-er's AtE)
Trouble in Paradise and Paradise Lost by AngieJ (http://www.schnoogle.com/authorLinks/AngieJ/) - An adult H/H shipper's attempt to understand the other side. R/H marriage on the rocks, Angelina Johnson-Weasley narrates. //
Arrival Unexpected and Return to Sender by Molly Moon (http://www.schnoogle.com/authorLinks/Molly_Moon/) - Messrs Moony, Wormtail, Padfoot & Prongs are in their sixth year at Hogwarts; someone who was once outside their circle is now at the center of it. And the Dark Lord has a new cruel method of attack. // Sequel to ‘Arrival Unexpected’ and second in the ‘Owl Post Series’: Remus Lupin is learning that time stands still for no one, least of all for the resident teenage werewolf of Hogwarts. Things aren’t that easy for his friends either: Peter struggles with the aftermath of last year’s attack; Sirius Black is the embodiment of trouble; James and Lily have planned their future together, but the best laid plans of mice, men or even a Marauder often go astray. What they don’t know is that outside the walls of Hogwarts, more mayhem is coming their way in a deadly and unexpected form.
(sequel isn't finished, but the first was lovely! One of my non-H/Hr favs, but instead Lily/James. Pre-OotP, I believe.)
Tess' Love on the Quidditch Pitch (http://www.schnoogle.com/authorLinks/Tess/) - 1953. The Heidelberg Harriers, "fiercer than a dragon and twice as clever," versus the all-witch Holyhead Harpies, founded in 1203. It was just another Quidditch game... but it became legend. Heck, how could a seven-day game with captains proposing marriage, crazy announcers, dragons, and all sorts of other craziness not?
(Not finished, but 16, lovely, humorous chapters. Not really ship-centric, and no present characters, but a MUST! I just she'd finish...)
Love is A Battlefield and Love is a Crime by Lissanne (http://www.schnoogle.com/authorLinks/Lissanne/) - Set eleven years after they leave Hogwarts, Harry and Hermione find themselves in a situation they never anticipated - they've fallen in love. Add a nasty ex-girlfriend, Ron and his wife, Ginny and Draco and Hermione's mysterious boss to the mix and see whether they can make it work as lovers - or whether their secrets will tear them apart forever. // In the sequel to "Love is a Battlefield", Harry and Hermione announce their engagement and begin to plan one of the most important days of their lives. However, not everyone in the wizarding world is thrilled with their news. There is someone who believes Hermione belongs to him and not Harry... and he will do anything to get her. Will they be able to find out who he is before he is able to carry out his plan or will they be too late to stop him? (sequel not finished)
Bewitched, Bothered and Bewildered by Cheering Charm (http://www.schnoogle.com/authorLinks/Cheering_Charm/)- Hermione lost everyone in the war with Voldemort; her parents, her boyfriend Ron and Harry, who left a week after graduation without a word. Now, five years later he has returned to Hogwarts to rebuild their friendship. Will Hermione forgive him for abandoining her? Will he tell her the real reason he left? How will the wizarding world react to the return of its favorite son?
and er... there's tons more I could link you, but er, you don't really know me, so... (but I love, love, love your fics!) Ah, I know some good Shaman King ones, but alas, I can't find them! And the good FMA ones I know are almost all one-shots.
.kaori-chan.

Date: 2005-01-08 09:31 pm (UTC)long fics......hmmmmm....
Date: 2005-01-08 11:17 pm (UTC)lets see.......
Anything by magicalfoci on fanfiction.net, especially "Harry Potter and the Return of the True sorcerers" (http://www.fanfiction.net/s/1167126/1/) It's quite long, despite not being finished yet. Its a CCS/HP crossover,, and is really, REALLY good....
ummm....
Anything by ego-chan on fanfiction.net. She's mostly Yu-gi-oh writer with an obsession with Otogi. My favorite is "Plans" which is kaiba/Ryou (sort of) (http://www.fanfiction.net/s/1288963/1/)
Back to CCS, need to read "A Cappella" by Kit Spooner (http://www.fanfiction.net/s/227280/1/)
It's Tomoyo/Eriol, set in the future with some amusing original characters that don't distract from the main storyline...
"akorgare" by milchstrasse (http://www.fanfiction.net/s/214579/1/) -another Tomoyo/Eriol
"Tale as Old as Time" by Starchick (http://www.fanfiction.net/s/669979/1/) -another Tomoyo/Eriol
(Mostly) anything by chibizoo on fanfiction.net. She's mostly Yu-gi-oh fandom, and a good deal of her fics can scramble your brain (in the good way...errr....nevermind)
How about Danny Phantom? "Danny's Inferno" by Legend Maker is okay (http://www.fanfiction.net/s/2133326/1/) It's err...a teen titans crossover. and has some annoying original characters. But its a fun read, and LONG.
...........I think thats good.....enjoy!
*snicker*
Date: 2005-01-09 07:18 am (UTC)Also, anything by gidgetgirl (not listed fandom, but she's hysterically funny) or rurouniGochan's "Rurouni's Guide to Idiocy" which is incomplete... but will make you come after me for causing you to sprain your abdominal muscles laughing... lisa roquin's "Hogwarts Apprentices" and SG-1 crossover "Life of the Weird" - again they're incomplete... but she's excellent.
long fic recs
Date: 2005-01-09 07:47 pm (UTC)My absolute favorite fics:
Harry Potter:
"Resonance" by GreenGecko-- A Snape-adopts-Harry fic, only not just that. Mostly set after Voldemort is defeated, which is nice. Very long, quite good, WIP.
"Mirror of Maybe" by Midnight Blue-- if you haven't read this yet, go now. Harry is sucked into a mirror, lives twenty years in an alternate dimension (sort of), and is returned to his 15-year old body. And that's just the first chapter. My favorite mature!Harry. Long.
"The Best Defense" by JoBishMyoga-- A Yu Yu Hakusho/Harry Potter crossover. One of the best HP crossovers around. The YYH team gets a mission at Hogwarts.
Gundam Wing:
Sunhawk-- try both the "Ion Arc" and the "Road Arc." Both are incredibly long, and Duo-centric. The "Ion Arc" is my favorite, but both are great. Written in a series of self-contained stories, which is great. Go to: http://4dw.net/deathndragon/sunhawk.html
Naruto:
"Side Effects" by ChibiRisu-chan-- Turns out Naruto's sexy-no-jitsu has a few... consequences. Kakashi and Iruta get in a bit of trouble.
The Sentinel:
"The Nature Series" by Francesca-- The TS series that should have been. Very long. Her Due South stuff is also excellent.
Highlander/Stargate:
"Changing of the Guard" by Ecolea-- Wow. Puts Methos (and various other immortals) into the SGC. Even if you've never seen either series, check this one out. Very long.
Hope that gives you something to go on.
Inuyasha Stories
Date: 2005-01-11 10:54 am (UTC)'clean' versions - http://www.fanfiction.net/u/650633/
'full' versions - http://www.mediaminer.org/fanfic/src.php?srcht=srcht&srch=&sort=dateD&gnr=&type=&rate=〈=english&show=GO
She writes very well, just as good as you and Ysabet, in my opinion. I personally suggest Chronicles, Torrent, Purity and Metamorphosis. These are all many chapters stories (Chronicles being 101 chapters w/epilogue) and usually 10-12 page chapters. All of her stories are angst and deal with the cannon pairings of Inuyasha/Kagome, Miroku/Sango, and Sesshomaru/Kagura (Most of the time). You should read these, for I haven't found a better author for long Inuyasha stories. All of the ones that I recommended by her, except for Metamorphosis, are done.
Another Inuyasha story is Calamity's Breach.
http://www.fanfiction.net/s/1780819/1/
This is a future Kohaku/Rin pairing (six years to be exact). It's written very well and brings out the troubles that Kohaku could have from when Naraku made him kill his family. This is another story that I highly recommend to read, but it isn't finished.
If you know any really good and really long angst stories that use the cannon pairings (Inuyasha/Kagome & Miroku/Sango), please let me know. (prsabin@yahoo.com). I'd be eternally grateful!
