Totally get it now.

Sherlock is in no way, at all, obsessing one Dr. John Watson. Because the world does not fall away when John is around. And Sherlock doesn't crave that. At all.

He is not annoyed at Mary for stealing Dr. John Watson out of his home. And he most certainly is absolutely not demonstrating this much in the same way a small schoolyard boy whose favourite toy is being taken away or sulking about it.

Or drugging the dog.

He is completely enamoured with the beautiful Irene Adler, who while completely smitten with him, does not show her affection through such means as drugs, lies and bondage.

Or gratuitous nudity.

And they totally, absolutely, did not set themselves up for a sequel.

IN OTHER WORDS, PIGS FLY AND THE SKY IS PLAID. BRING ON THE FIC!!!

<3 (this was a fun movie!)

Wasn't it, though? I WANT TO SEE IT AGAIN. AAAAARGH!

Hey, psst-- do you have any idea what Mouri Ran's birthday is? Can't find it anywhere for love or money. **sigh**

The thing I was squeeing over was the elements in the methods for the four deaths. Earth, Water, Fire and Air.
Dunno if anyone's caught on to that yet. #^^#

Ran does not have a canon birthday, as far as I can recall. Vaugely remember something about it being 2 Oct, based on the live action movie, but I think you're pretty much in the free and clear.

Fun is exactly the word I use to describe it! My friends are being all snobby about it but I had fun and it was good.

Fandom is not being very kind to Mary but Irene gets off fairly well and Watson is almost as popular as Holmes.

Went in not expecting accuracy, just expecting fun and had a great deal of it. >D

That's a pity, about fandom. I really liked Mary. Yes, she's inbetween Watson and Holmes, and she KNOWS that and she seems to try to handle it with as much grace as she can and still keep John. She's willing to fight for him, Watson is willing to fight for Mary, but at the same time neither of them want to hurt Holmes. (well, maybe Mary. A little bit.)

... And it just struck me at how very Victorian the mindset it is when referring to 'Watson' as 'John' feels somewhat intimate. Huh.

There was more accuracy than I expected to tell the truth. All the little shout-outs to like Watson's gambling and the bullpup where great. And my inner costume geek died of joy >D

I already liked Mary from the books. She is very much her own person and Watson loves her. Grace is a perfect word for her and John.

Its also very American. On this side of the pond we are called Sherlockians where as the English fans are Holmesians. First names vs last names are almost as old as the fandom and the Sherlock Holmes fandom is deep and old. Fan stories and gatherings have been around almost as long as the books themselves. Its really fascinating.

Quick note as I crash to let you know that I hate you and that plunnies are now voratiously eating our brains with Mary POV fic.

"Hail Mary, full of grace." She can hear Sherlock mutter sarcastically behind her. "For thy Lord is with you</>."

Mmmyes. So much truer to the books than I expected, and I think between the Sherlock Holmes and Iron Man franchises, Robert Downey Jr. might just be one of my new favorite actors. He plays those quirky and slightly neurotic characters so well :D

The scene at the restaurant with Holmes having trouble shutting off from everything was a nice touch, as well.

Granted, I'd probably have been happy as long as they didn't stuff him in the coat and hat like everyone else seems to do ^.^;;

They messed with event!canon quite a bit, but I thought the characters were closer to the books than almost any adaptation yet. (Jeremy Brett and the Granada series aside, of course.) I really liked how they handled Mary, I liked her a lot. And I loved how they handled Holmes' relationships... you really can pick and choose what kind of sexuality you think he has, including none at all, but it's obvious he loves Watson at least as a brother... and he's FASCINATED with Irene, and does have some affection for her. I think Watson calling her Holmes' "Muse" later in the movie is EXTREMELY appropriate.

That show was the Platonic ideal of a Holmes Adaptation. Also, Jude Law is in an ep. :)

Still have not seen, still debating.

Wait, Irene Adler is a love interest? Irene Adler is "The Woman" - but she marries someone else, she is the woman who outsmarts Holmes, former mistress of a monarch, but really only wants to be free of him to move on and get married, Holmes and she are an item in the movie??...twitching.

And yes, there have always, and will always be certain homoerotic overtones to the Holmes/Watson dynamic. :)

Irene and Holmes are... complicated. They're not an item, exactly. I thought they handled their relationship quite well, actually...
