RL kinda feels like a knotted tangled mess right now and I'm not really sure which way to go, so not going there at the moment.
But was reading Yuletide recs recently and commented to
aishuu that I hadn't seen much Sky High fic, and was nice to see it rec'd.
Long story short, it's all
aishuu's fault. It's a Project.
In the process of getting this story started, we needed to bounce a few ideas around. And started realising just how many talented authors I not just know, but talk with.
Just by opening a chat window, I've got
marsdejahthoris,
wren_chan,
magicbulletgirl,
dqbunny,
candy__chan and
joisbishmyoga.
Every week, I see
ysabet,
lil_1337,
morgan_idril, and
angl3brt in person and talk fandom.
Getting on e-mail or LJ, there's at least twenty more people, all different fandoms, from all over the world, I can reach out and say 'Can I bounce plunnies off of you please?' and get answers back.
And sitting down and thinking about it, it's truly staggering.
So, thank you. Because I don't say it enough. And while yeah, can write without that feedback, it's so much more fun doing it with people. Thank you for being there for that.
And since everyone else is doing it, baa:
Writing as Icka!:
The True Fan
OOC is blasphemy, canon is everything.
Once you fall in love with a movie, book or TV series, you are loyal like an old dog. You take fanfiction quite serious and use it as a substitute after the canon ran out.
You are probably a walking dictionary of your favourite fandom and you are picky about what you write and read. The closer to the "real thing" fanfiction is, the more you like it.
You rather explore a character in all depth, see new sides and learn more about them than creating new characters or mix up the situations they are in.
Writing as our other Pseudonym:
The Weirdo
Crackfic, Mpreg, and all the other oddities.
You are pretty weird. It's hard to put you in a box. On one hand, you might lean towards the bizarre subgenres; recklessly slash people with inanimate objects, create alternative universes where Harry Potter is a 7 years old girl named Annie and don't take fanfiction very serious. On the other hand, you might be a misunderstood genius that could write Tolkien, Roddenberry and Rice into the ground, and your ideas are simply totally ahead of their time.
However, the chances you're the latter are rather small.
Which is just strange, because all that's posted under that name is PWP. *checks* And all Slash at that. No mpreg or crack fic. Although the one the different aliens might count as crack, but that's really the only humorous one.
Kinda interesting though, how the answers varied. As Icka!, I write mostly mystery and comedy, the alias does PWP and sci-fi. The Sci-fi is unexpected. Huh.

Date: 2010-01-08 06:42 pm (UTC)No worries, I've been kinda feeling guilty because it seems like we're writing in every other fandom except DC/MK lately.

Date: 2010-01-08 05:44 pm (UTC)also, lack of Sky High fics is indeed distressing D: could you possibly rec some to me, too?

Date: 2010-01-08 06:39 pm (UTC)The original recs I got are here (http://community.livejournal.com/rec_a_day/162705.html) and they're both excellent.
Both are also hosted at Archive Of Our Own (http://archiveofourown.org/tags/Sky%20High%20(2005)/works) which has a decent selection of fics (http://archiveofourown.org/tags/Sky%20High%20(2005)/works). Some I like more than others.
These two (http://community.livejournal.com/brainsxbrawn/51410.html) are also really cute.
There's an awful lot of OC and Mary-Sue in the fandom, so I've been sticking with Warren/Will (http://delicious.com/tag/warren%2Fwill) and Warren/Will/Layla (http://delicious.com/tag/warren%2Fwill%2Flayla) when I can find it.
