TusCon vs Southern Crusades, Pros/Cons

So TusCon, the Tucson Sci-Fi Con, and Southern Crusades are the same weekend. I've done volunteer work for both before and had fun.

Got the word last night that the person they had to run the Art Show stepped down and they need someone desperately.

I've been waffling on Southern Crusades because I'm flat broke and don't have anything lined up for petsitting until December. I can help Kai with the dogs and the RV and she'll take care of the entrance fee, then was hoping to volunteer and eat at Hospitably, which is pretty much what happened last year, but the response I've gotten back has been... um. Odd.
Hospitality was... uncertain and the only person who was interested about volunteers was Chirurgeons, but I don't have the money to get my SCA membership and CPR cards back up to date to become a Chirurgeon in Training. Otherwise? Oh hell yeah.
... It's kinda strange to approach people to volunteer to help at a meeting and get 'Meh. Whatever' in response.

It was pointed out on Facebook that 'SCAdians are like crazy cat people--we'll feed ya', and I've had offers to eat at several people's encampments, but I really do NOT like to mooch. Especially when a lot of people are broke right now. I'll work for food, thank you, but have an extremely hard time accepting hand-outs. IE 'Icka doesn't want to be the cat right now.'

TusCon does have hospitality, can eat there for certain, and can sleep at home. It was also pointed out that I can put running the Art Show on a resume as experience, which is a little tricker with the SCA stuff, since I no longer am an Officer and it's hard to put 'Volunteering 8-12 hours a day at Wars' on a resume.

But basically at this point, it boils down to TusCon needs volunteers, Southern seems to have it well in hand, I'll go where I'm needed.

I need volunteers and you'd make a great waterbearer. And yes, lots of people would feed you just for the pleasure of your company, or a little help around camp. That said, it sounds like TusCon is your better option. Just wanted to let you know I'd miss you. ;)

I honestly think you just answered your own question there. Skip Southern and aim for Estrella. People will understand and real life always, always comes first. *hugs*

Jah, sounds like TusCon is your best bet. You Will Be Missed at Southern, tho.
