So as my Icka! self, I write crack and 'Win teh Internet'.
As my sock-puppet self, I write pr0n and am given souls. Two, thus far.
But if the Internet is for pr0n, does this mean Crack + Interwebs = Pr0n = Souls?
-And if so, why do I get the feeling the next part should be: souls + ??? = PROFIT!.

Hmmm...

souls + ??? = PROFIT!

Hm. Well, you could sell 'em on eBay. "Icka's Recycled Souls Emporium! Why Be Damned For All Eternity When You Can Send A Proxy Instead?"

**snicker** Juuuuuust kidding.

souls + conveniently-located doorway to Hell + variety of condiments = PROFIT!

This is the secret of corporate high muckity-mucks.

First off-- WIN.

Second off, how do you say tantei? *facepalm* I asked someone in RL and then instantly forgot.

It should be tahn-tay. They're all... I think the term is "pure" vowels, like in Latin. A = ah, e = something like "eh", only not held as long, i = ee, o = oh, u = oo. ei, eh-ee, ends up very close to our long A.

Thanks! That's what I thought, then remembered the thing about two vowels. It's a very amusing audio clip, though, I will admit.

And then I realized the fifteen minutes I spent poking R into telling me how to say stuff was mostly wasted, since on top of tantei and hara kiri, I'd forgotten Aoko, Koizumi, and asorted other names. It was a few weeks ago. I got sick and sounded like sandpaper *meep* Help?

All Japanese vowels are like that. It should come out close enough if you try to keep the syllables shorter than English syllables and don't emphasize the consonants much.
Nakamori Aoko: nah-kah-moh-ree ah-oh-koh ; ao = ah-oh, if it comes out like an open-throated "ow" it's probably right
Koizumi Akako: koh-ee-zoo-mee ah-kah-koh
Kuroba Kaito: koo-roh-bah kai-toh ; kai = sounds like "I" with a "k" in front of it
Kaitou KID: "ou" is most easily done by English speakers if they hold the "oh" a bit longer, but the exact pronunciation is "oh" with an almost whispered "oo" on the end. kai-toh-oo kee-doh. Long i, not like English.
Hakuba Saguru: hah-koo-bah sah-goo-roo
Edogawa Conan: eh-doh-gah-wah koh-nahn
Kudou Shin'ichi: ku-doh-oo sheen-ee-chee ; another "ou", see Kaitou KID
Not sure what other names you need, if any.

Yays!

*bookmarks the shit out of comment and copies into an email* I am taking no chances. I just lost my second 2/3 of the way done attempt at podfic to computer errors, and I'm terrified I'm going to loose something more important.

Of course, then you've got the varying "n"s, plus that really odd sound that's written as an R, but sounds more like a blend of R, L, and D... (when a syllable ends in an N, it's often pronounced with the tongue approaching the palette without touching it.) But most of those are a real pain for non-native speakers to learn...
