While I couldn't think of "10 Unpopular Opinions about Fanfiction", sakurazuka_jaeJaelle's "Five Most Annoying Reader Comments" we had a few.

Five Most Annoying Reader Comments (in descending order)

rambling responses in italics

5: l33+

l33+ does not make people look cool. It makes it them look like idiots who cannot spell. 'U' instead of 'You' does the same thing. How you type, even in informal conditions, will reflect how people picture you and your intelligence. And since oftentimes a review is a first impression, it makes for a very lousy one.

4: BWHAHAHAHahaha! (as the entire comment)

Uh... thank you. I think that means you liked it... *wanders off vaguely puzzled*

3: "That was good! Write More!"

... while we're not doubting the enthusiasm or sincerity, which part was good? Did you like one part over another? ... is just not very constructive. Heck, the one review that still has us dancing was one person commenting that the fic wasn't up to my normal standards. And they were right.
*scratches head* Snarky comment that always pops up is why do people seem to think that we need their permission to write more. S'not like we're likely to stop soon. Especially considering the size of our backlog... ^^;;

2: References to chemical abuse. Crack/ Drugs/Drunk/Slipping stuff in drinks/Etc

Actually, this ranks up there with more Amused than anything. ^___^
We're this way naturally. Do not, and would not care to see what would happen if we actually took something that modified personality behaviours. Hallucinations on Therma-flu don't count because we know we're hallucinating those flying wombats.. ^^;;

1: References to Men in White, Straight Jackets and Needing to be Locked Up In A White Padded Cell.

Pet Peeve. MAJOR Pet Peeve. Especially the last one.
Was told that for YEARS. Non-joking . ~_~ Fortunately avoided it actually happening. I don’t need to hear it from people we’ve never met.
And if you're profiting off of our insanity with ficcage to read, why the heck would you want to lock us up? o_O
... sorry... I know we take that a bit too seriously… *rubs head and sighs* Really don’t like being trapped…

okay, end rant.
And despite what it may look like, we really do appreciate comments and reveiws. Questions are loved above all else.
Sorry for this being so negative. ^^;;

Have to agree with you on number 4, one of the more unhelpful comments you can receive. The drugs one too - we usually respond to that one with, "Chocolate, we don't need anything harder".

On another note: WOOOHOOOO!!! Someone used something off _my_ journal insteada the other way around! *celebrates with confetti and string-in-a-can*

Ack... am guilty of 4 and 5 particularly. I vow to try and not do that ever again. Cross my heart and hope to die.

...where did that "hope to die" part come from anyway?

Not sure, but it does sound severe, doesn't it? o_O;;

Don't worry about it, Yuncyn. ^__^ You don't do #5 alot, and certainly not to the point of abuse. And you always add stuff other than 'Bwhahahaa', so you're not guilty of #4.

And we always apreshiate hearing from you! ((GLOMPS!))

... should add a note about #5... getting reviews entirely in l33+ are just @_o;; ...ack.

Think I'm guilty of a couple of these myself...will try to avoid next time, promise. #4 and the occasional #1 and #2 especially.

Though, I can't agree with you more on the l33+ / chatspeak. Chatspeak I can tolerate to an extent (like simple brb, gtg, ppl, etc), but I cannot stand l33+speak. I don't even know how people READ that stuff. Makes my eyes hurt. @_@

Off to bed now. *thud*

Okay, have been OCCASIONALLY guilty of variants of #4 and #5, and a few Bwahahaha's, but always accompanied by commentary. Well, maybe a *lot* of Bwahahaha's and one or two Mwahaha's now and then. I utterly agree with you regarding the "U" for "You" and all that; I loath that sort of thing and tend to limit my own usage even while chatting to a mere BTW, which truely cannot be considered more than a minor sin. I hope my 3rd Grade English Teacher will forgive me.....

Worst pet peeve on my part: "Great-- more!" I really, really, really hate 2-word reviews. For crying out loud, y'all, if you're going to review, REVIEW. Shriek about the bits you didn't like, rant about what pissed you off, rave about what made you laugh; but don't do petty little 2-word comments. That's rather like leaving a dime tip for a good waitress, isn't it? Damning with faint praise, only in this case it's boring, which is worse.

Errk! Screwed up the #s; I meant #'s 2 and 1, not 4 & 5!

Chatspeak is different than reviews anyway. BRB, GTG, and AFK are anachronisms, not really l33+speak.
Reading and writing it certainly does take work tho. I can do it, just often choose not to because it takes 3-4 times as long to understand it, espeically l33+heavy.

And I must confess to pulling it occasionally. *sweatdrops* Such as 'ph34r m3', which is used usually sarcastically. (really, why would anyone be afraid of me? ^__^ )

But think most people find heavy usage of l33+speak grounds for perminately ignoring the person.

^^;; Have been guilty of a few...I think #4 being the main one. And I agree with what you wrote about #5 *claws at eyes*

I don't even know what "l33+" means! -_-;; But, like Haunty and Ysa, I don't mind brb, lol, etc, especially since I use it all the time, but the alternating caps and numbers/letters drive me nuts! >.

... What's 133+? *turns head in various directions*. Dangit. Still can't see. Dont mind the 'U's for you when messeging, but like stuff you can do on a keyboard deserves some better spelling. Let's see... guilty of the "BWahaha" thingie... but that was a while ago, still occasionally do it when a fic's so funny I couldn't think of anything else. Will change!!

l33+ (or 'leet' or '733+') is using words and other symbols to create letters.

There's 2 kinds of l33+, l33+ lite and l33+ heavy/advanced.

thI5 I$ wH4+ l33+ lI+E Lo0Ks L1k3 (this is what l33+ lite looks like)

+hi5 i5 \/\/|-|4+ l33+ |-|E4VY lo0|<5 l1|<3 (this is what l33+ heavy looks like)

As you can see, it's not the easiest to understand. ^^;;

To my understanding, it came around in the on-line gaming commuities first, l33+ meaning 'elite'. As in 'elite' gamers. ~_^

Megatokyo, a sweet online webcomic made it really popular because one of the 2 main characters, Largo, used to speak in nothing but l33+. See comic #9 for the most famous example. ^__^
