... Actually, after 2 1/2 weeks on the job, I am no longer an assistant, I'm a Presentator. Which means pay-raise (yay) but now paying for schtuff. Like paperwork.

Anyway, pulling 12 hour days in Tucson, most of it studying. My brain hurts now.

... and yet, I wanna fic.

Randomly, was not expecting to like Koumei in the latest Detective Conan chapters, but he's growing on me.

All I can remember is his assistant's name for him (Kan-chan). Looked it up, Yamato (Yamato Kansuke).

Well, Koumei happens to bear more than a passing resemblence to Toichi. And he isn't too much of a smug bastard. But there is something about him that bothers me.

I agree on both counts. Of course, he also resembles Yuusaku quite a bit, save for the mustache... I think that may be Gosho's tendency towards the Only Four Faces trope showing up again. But there's something... smug about him? And it seems AWFULLY pat that the White guy died right after talking to him, and that he had an involvement with the deceased in the previous case...

There is something about him that doesn't sit quite right with me. I know I'm missing something but don't know enough yet to put it together. At least it isn't a regular locked-room mystery.

Kan-chan reminds me of Heiji. They have somewhat similar attitudes.

Not to mention the dark skin and the blatant parallelism between the Kansuke/Yui relationship and the Heiji/Kazuha one. I'd originally wondered if Komui was supposed to be a Shinichi analogue, given the parallels and the smug, but... I don't think so anymore.

Maybe it'll turn out to be a twisted version of it. With the new 'Shinichi' actually the one at the center of the crimes (like a puppetmaster working the strings).

Except it looks like Koumei isn't quite so lucky. But, then again, he might not be dead. We'll have to wait until we have a body and then have it verified as him.

Actually, it seems to me that getting hit on the head from behind is rather reoccuring trend lately.

Maybe Aoyama is having fun with us (the readers) by having the parallels?

It -is- awfully convinient. We'll just have to wait and see. For all I know, the real Koumei has been dead a while and the guy we've seen running around is an imposter. And I look forward to the next chapter, too.
