Love the ram's bug-eyed look. And of course, that lion is anatomically correct. The fact that eight of these guys watch over the kiddie pool/fountain at the nearby shopping centre just kinda makes me wonder. Eh.

Yaoi Jamboree!!!

Pros: Niiiiice intimate con, about 200 attendees, which is good for a first con and factoring the flooding in the mid-west, gas prices and AnimeNext. In a very gorgeous location. Friendly people, easy to talk to anyone and everyone.
Cons: They were expecting quite a few more attendees, so the people who did show up kind of rattled around the large space. Some of the dealers left early because of low attendance.
... and it was also 120f/49c outside.

Turns out that this was [livejournal.com profile] lil_1337's first con, and I think it was a good one to break her into conventions. Our first panel had 3 people, so we pulled the chairs out from behind the tables, sat in a circle, asked questions, gave answers and discussed fanfiction. We met the fabulous [livejournal.com profile] twistedhilarity and her friend Jess Jess and had a good time.

-Turns out Mythwear, who make those cool anime courier bags, went under. They're no longer making them. One of the dealers was selling the bags 2 for $30, so I got a reaaaaaaaally nice chinese brocade one. *pets*

Found Nemo on the way out, then crashed at [livejournal.com profile] dragon_badfaith and [livejournal.com profile] nekofdoom's house (many thanks to them for it) and stayed up way to late talking to Ookami and one of the other roommates about this and that, which was awesome.

Saterday, we got there in time for the 'History of Yaoi' panel... which I ended up co-hosting it with [livejournal.com profile] yukitsukihana. ^^;; Yay for random geek knowledge. [livejournal.com profile] morgan_idril and [livejournal.com profile] angl3brt came up for the Con and we went out with them for lunch (see the temperature comment). Introduced them all to Which Wich for lunch, which on top of being the cheapest place around to eat, has good food.

Our second panel started out fairly small and gained people. Once again, we pulled out the chairs and did more of a circle type thing. Had more questions about the mechanics of sex on this one and the differences in writing styles.

Hung out with people, watched the GW skit, MOrgan and Sarah headed home and I got Linda to watch the second part of 'Boku no Sexual Harassment' -the one with the Corn Scene. Yes, THAT scene. She still hasn't forgiven me. >D

Best line of the Con came during the Yaoi reading-
Woman *reading from the screen*: "-will have to use Per-SWAY-shun..."
Horrified Miyaka cosplayer next to her: "MOMMA! Stay Out Of This!!!"

Last day of con was, well... REALLY QUIET. No one showed up for the panel, so we headed home early, caravanning back with Megs and her new car. I fell asleep in the car, woke up for water, entertained people at the Circle K by balancing stuff on my head and dropping it going out the door. Linda, Megs and Patrick entertained people with requests for nuts.

Slept more in the car, got home, started up the laptop to write this up, ate dinner and literally fell sideways and fell asleep again. Ysabet woke me up two hours later to shower and sleep. And here we are!

Have come to the realisation that I'm not as hard-core into Yaoi as I was a few years ago, but if they have another Yaoi Jam next year, will definitely go.

Rest of the pictures here.

'Boku no Sexual Harassment' -the one with the Corn Scene.
If that is refering to what I think it refers to, it is legend amoung my friends who are into shonen-ai/yaoi. So much so, that someone only has to say 'corn' to get a round of knowing snickers.

Yup. THAT scene. ^_________________^

... there's really one one corn scene in yaoi, but it's one that's hard to forget. >D

Well, I've been too squeamish to watch it but I did watch everyone one in the room watch it (back to the TV). *grins* That was fun. To make it even better, one friend gave everyone little corn-on-the-cob magnets. Heh.

Yeah, I don't blame you about being squeamish on that one. I was semi-okay with the first part, second part made me go 0_0, but I completely loathe the third part.

But the corn-on-the-cob seems to be a standard in Yaoi now. One person had a huge fake corn on the cob that was being passed around and giggled about.

*Corn on the Cob is lifted above head*
"BEHOLD! THE CORN!"

-someone was also leaving dried corn kernels in strange places. ^^;;

I'll read shonen-ai, I won't watch it but I have so much -fun- yoinking people's chains about it. *snicker*

Horray for in-jokes!

And the corn lead to gin because gin can be made from corn liquor. And in the context of DC, that's disturbing.

Lions humping rams around the kiddie pool? WTF sort of venue are we talking here?

... I should have explained that better. The lions and rams weren't at the hotel. The hotel was next to a giant shopping complex thingie, predominately expensive restaurants and an AMC movie theatre.

This was across a 'street' from the AMC movie theatre, in the centre of the shopping complex.

But yeah... very strange.
