Live Action Death Note Burble
May. 21st, 2008 11:12 pm
There was an L (see above) and a Misa Misa cosplayer at the Live Action Death Note movie tonight. \o/
Over all, the move ROCKED. The actors were good, the dubbing was, well, ignorable for the most part. Except for Mom being all June Cleaver-ish, she was kinda freaky.
The main problem with the movie was that there was no text translated. There would be massive amounts of information presented in the form of newspapers, websites, letters, business cards and the characters would react, but nothing was translated. I could catch 'キラ' and some random 'kana, but not enough to make sense. I imagine it was worse for the people who don't even know that much.
-if Viz was a fansub group, I'd send it back and wait for a better group's release, in all honesty.
Was also kind of disappointed in the size of the theatre... It sold out and three of our group couldn't get tickets. Then we get to the room and discover it's the smallest theatre they had. ;_;
I'm pretty sure the movie wasn't meant to be a comedy, but there were some things that had people giggling like mad. Ryuk's shadow advancing on Light (damn, I miss the days when he was 'Raito') at one point had everyone howling. Ryuk and his apples also sent giggles through the audience just about every time.
The mad fangirl squeak from one corner of the theatre at L's appearance was great, as well as everyone's continuing reactions to L and L's SUGAR. OMG, the Sugar. @_@ Lollipop = Spoon FTW. Also, huzzah for eating crisps like a declaration of war.
Misa... I was expecting at least blond streaks, was kinda surprised that they left her hair pure black. Her posters on the bus got laughter every time too. ^__^
... other problem was my own fault for having read Death Note doujinshi back when the manga was originally coming out. ^^;; The 'L watching the cameras in Raito's room' scene will always go a bit differently in my head. *laughs nervously*
Anyway. Wanna go see part two now. Or maybe actually watch the anime. Or read ficcage. Mmmmm... ficcage....
For those asking off LJ, the doujin in question is 'Light Note'. L/Raito yaoi warning for the unsurprised.

The Misa actress is so pretty. Although she has that cute, not sexy, vibe going on.
Too bad about the lack of translated texts. I watched the first and second movie in Singapore a year ago( No dubs, English subs) I can't remember if they actually translated the texts from newspapers and stuff though. I think they did.

had a ton of cosplayers as well. there was even a Matt! (omg)
I also noticed a bunch of product placement (Marshmallow Twists and TootsiePops! in addition to the phones and iMac. and the crisps.)
totally agree on the text. EVERYTHING was untranslated. the only reason I knew what text was what was because of the subbed movie (which I saw before), and the manga/anime, and the context it was used in there.
yeah...I downloaded that doujin >> I can never look at L's cameras or their being chained together the same way again...
and on a random note, it's raining rather hard right now, and has been for the entire day. how's the weather down there?
