Read manga this week, not much anime.

Soul Eater ch 1-36, 47:
Think 'Bleach' meets 'Nightmare Before Christmas' with the architecture done by the artist of 'King of Bandit Jing'.
In the town of 'Death City' where Shinigami-sama (who is hysterical) reigns, you have two main kinds of people. 'Meisters/Technicians' and 'Weapons', people who can turn into a weapon. The Meisters and Weapons partner together and try to 'collect 99 human souls and one Witches' soul to turn the Weapons into 'Death Scythes'.

Over all, I'm enjoying this series. With few exceptions, the characters have enough foibles to make them interesting. Maka's father is Shinigami-sama's scythe. Soul Eater is a snarky mellow sort of drooling guy with a fanged grin. Black☆Star is a loud-mouth assassin who hogs the limelight, with his quiet shape-shifting ninja partner Tsubaki. Death the Kidd, Shinigami-sama's son (NO idea how that works out) would be your typical 'cool' character, if it wasn't for the fact that he was OCD about symmetry. Which is ironic, considering the three white horizontal stripes in his hair. His partners, the Thompson sisters, do a good job acting like older and younger sisters and keeping him in line. Blair provides boob and panty shots. And then there's the crazy Doctor Stein, whom I'm planning on stealing/making his lab coat.

There's some ongoing mysteries that link the threads together, such as Soul's 'soul room' and despite the fact that he wears your standard teenage garb, he wears a suit there like he's worn it all of his life. And what his real name is. Why he plays piano. He seems to know, he's just slow on letting us in on it.

I do have a few problems with the series however. Black☆Star and Soul go and have a fight with Kidd the first day Kidd goes to school. It ends in a... um. Well, it ends and afterwards all the characters are BFF. Even the people who weren't there.
The goal is to get the weapons to become 'Death Scythes', some of which you do get to meet, but you never hear about what happens to the techs afterwards.
What gender is Medusa's child?!
And I really hate that Maka is defined by the fact that she has a love/hate with her father because he's is a womaniser and that Soul loves her and doesn't say anything.
And am highly annoyed that Soul recently stopped smiling and drooling. He's been rather blah and emo since then.

Anyway. Not sure to rec this one or not. I'm gonna give it another story arc before going either way. Although if it swings back to awesome, will have to cross it over with Magic Kaito, because a mixed up 'Black Star' heist with both Kids would be awesome.

Franken Fran ch 1-11:
There's something amusing about reading this series while sewing another autopsy shirt. Fran is filling in for the Doctor who created her, taking on his patients and earnestly helping people out.
Unfortunately, her methods are a bit... bizzare? extreme? Combination there of?
There's a Mature Content warning on this series and I'd have to agree. Okita, Fran's best friend who is a cat with a person's head (not face. H-E-A-D. And we know he's not neutered) takes some getting used to, and then he's the most mild thing there. Fran's not interested in any sort of morals or ethics, they don't cross her cheerful absent-minded little mind. Delicate operation? She'll add on four extra arms to handle it all. Come across a guy stabbing his girlfriend in the park? She's sorry for the interruption and will even rig the head to live on it's own. Announce that everyone on a ship is eating the birthday girl, no problem and why is suddenly barfing?
Fran's amusing, but it's sort of like reading Ito Junji's works, waiting to see what the next twisted horror is going to be. Not for the squeamish.

Embalming: The Another Tale of Frankenstein ch 5 and Intermission:
I've talked about this one a bit before. Summary still holds true, only it's gonna be 'the gay Frankenstein manga' from here on out because you're not gonna convince me that Ras is anything but hot in the pants for Fury. And Fury keeps missing the clue bus due to his obsession in killing Frankensteins, even if he keeps denying that Ras is one. *sighs*
... huh. Didn't realise that it was done by the same guy who did Kenshin.

Double Arts ch 1-8 :
A break from the horror! Wasn't expecting much from this one, but I think I'm gonna keep it for a while. Girl heals people from terribly sickness, catches it herself. Girl is about to die, boy touches her hand, should be infected, stops sickness from killing her. They now must hold hands (or maintain skin-to-skin contact) at all times or she dies.
Should be depressing, Kiri should be a Gary-Stu, somehow it all comes across as a very sweet hopeful little story. And! Frequent kick-ass action sequences.
The author did a one-shot called Island which is a pretty good read too.

Anime! Well, technically I saw the first episode of Soul Eater, but there's a big enough ramble above.

Code Geass episodes 1-4:
Um. *taps arm* Crack, please.

Franken Fran is awesome - I loved the story about the girl who got turned into a bug. Great ending there - glad to hear you're reading it. Figured it wouldn't be too long XDDD *I don't mind there isn't a lot of plot, but I do wonder where is the doctor...*

Doctor Ten as a Mad scientist would totally ROCK.

.... not that he's that far away from it at the moment...

But yeah, Franken Fran is morbid love. And you're right, that caterpillar one still hurts my head. I feel so sorry for the guy. ;_; Nookie and Death.

Thank you! *wiggles happily*

I almost kinda wanna write an AU where Lulu took off that damn mask when asking Suzaku to join him. And Suzaku says yes and they OMG! Work Together.

... but will have to finish the series first to see if we like it well enough to fic length that would require. Because I am a sucker for happy endings. #^^#

Reminds me of something I read here (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/Anime). "Anime: My anti-drug. Because when you're addicted to anime, you can't afford no drugs."

*Squees at the Death Icon* Gaiman's Death is so cute!

They used to have one that read "Anime: You gave up Drugs for this?!" and "Anime: Crack is Cheaper", but they got rid of the 'crack' reference for what ever reason. ^^;;

I don't know about the Soul Eater manga, but the animation in the anime is simply delectable and has made me a permenant addict of the series. Which isn't really all that surprising that it would be Bones animating it. The musical soundtrack is really well done, as well. Creepy and unusual - Thus perfectly fitting.

I hope you'll give the anime a shot. They've got up to episode 10 subbed and 11 should be out on SumoTorrent in a few days. ^-^ <3
