Odd Question
Apr. 23rd, 2008 09:54 am-When did the Jehovah's Witnesses start preaching about Global Warming?
... I originally accidentally spelt that as 'Jenova's Witnesses'. *facepalm* Curse you VGCats!
Also, is Barmaids worth going to?

Date: 2008-04-23 05:39 pm (UTC)Admittedly, I don't know a lot about Jehovah's Witnesses except for the fact that they actually go out and preach, based on what the Bible said. And as annoying as that can be sometimes, I respect them for actually going out and doing that when they don't know who they're going to run into. Say, like, crazy pagans. *waves* Hail Eris.
AND! They quoted Old Testament! \o/ King James version granted (>P), but Old Testament! *Squees*
-okay, yeah, I'm weird. ^^;;

-Which I am currently playing, as we are trying to coax some fics into playing with us, but it looks like it'll be a research day instead cause this current lack of knowledge annoys me.

Date: 2008-04-23 06:01 pm (UTC)Without reading the article yet, my guess is that it goes with their belief that eternal happiness will be lived on Earth as it is now, just with the world being made over again and everyone being good. From what I've heard (could be wrong), they place humans and animals on the same level. As such, they're staunch environmentalists.

Date: 2008-04-25 04:51 pm (UTC)Their preferred translation of the bible does have some differences from the most commonly used translations, the biggest differences are the lack of archaic words, and the substitution of "Jehovah" for the terms "Lord" and "God" in many passages. They are passionate about their belief that all people are brothers and sisters in the eyes of God.
Many of their beliefs are much like those of the Anabaptists in Europe during the Reformation. The Quakers, and Puritains were two of the more famous branches of Anabaptists. Like the Anabaptists, the JW's belive that all members of their congrigations should consider themselves as ministers, and that a church shouldn't ever get involved with the state. Also, they refuse to serve in any country's millitary, in some countries, they have been imprisioned, or even killed for this.
I sure that this is propably more than you wanted to know, but oddly enough I just recently had a conversation about JW's and Anabaptists. The Quakers, and Puritains were two of the more famous branches of Anabaptists.
