Xan was sick earlier this week, vomit and diarrhoea, but he's gotten over that other than wanting to cuddle a bit more than usual.

What currently has us worried is that his hands and feet are currently cold to the touch, slightly swollen and a mottled red colour. The whites of his eyes are slightly blue, and he has a faintly blue touch to the outside of his lips.

Other than that, he's his usual happy cheerful energetic self, and the rest of him is normal temperature, but we're keeping him warm and bundled anyway. But the colour and temperature is worrisome.

Moms? Dads? Any comments or suggestions as to what's going on?

Thanks.

[edit: *head desk* and now that we're asking, the swelling has gone down and his hands and feet have warmed up, which means the major visible symptoms have faded. And he continues to be be his usual silly self. >_> Still taking him to hospital however.]

I don't remember the kid having anything like that. If they are cold I would make sure they're covered especially since it has been cold outside. Maybe a call to the pediatrician to ask if it is something to be concerned about or not.

Pediatritian, NOW. While it may not be an emergancy, any change in temp with infants is highly worrisome, especially the fact he's blue to the lips and cold to the touch, he may have an upper respetory infection and not getting enough air, he might also simply be too cold (it is winter) and needs more warmth.

A pediatrician can give you more info.

(Note: Not a mum but those were classic signs to look for in my First Aide classes - Former Nanny)

It's just the hands and feet that are cold, the rest of him is within normal temps and we've been keeping him warm.

but yeah, we're taking him in.

Hmm, sounds like a blood flow/warmth issue then. If his blood is a bit sluggish then the hands and feet are cold. Might need more fluids (I get that especially this time of year and my sister had it too when she was a baby).

Tell us how he is!

Ditto on the calling of a pediatrician. What you don't know yourself, they will know. Also, do keep him as bundled up as you can. I know it doesn't get very very cold over there in the southwest (except at night, most likely--it is the desert, after all), but it's still winter and it might be cold for him, so you might want to be safe and just keep him wrapped in blankets and such--socks are also A+++.

Sadly, I wasn't around for a lot of my nephew's baby time but yeah. >.>;;;

I concur with Saitana - blue lips is most likely cyanosis, which means he's not getting enough oxygen. Mottled and cold extremities - thermal problem, or circulation problem - In adults, I'd assume hypothermia, but I doubt he's been out in the bush...

But yes, get thee in contact with a pediatrician, and/or try warming gently. Check for any gurgling/coughing or wheezing that may be lung congestion causing the cyanosis.

Breathing is fine, rest of his temperature, head and belly are fine. And yeah, he hasn't left the warm house.

Am keeping track of the breathing though. Thanks!

You're already taking him to the doctor so I won't repeat the advice. Just agree that if your instinct says something's wrong, listen to it.

And keep us posted on the little guy.
