Monterey Bay
Dec. 18th, 2007 09:07 amThe hotel had a minor mix up when we got there, we'd asked for a 'double room'. They gave us a room with one queen bed, no fridge or microwave. *shrugs* But it was warm and dry and comfortable, so we didn't mind too much.
So having arrived in Monterey, we looked at each other and both realised that we were too broke to afford the Monterey Bay aquarium, so started looking at cheaper, interesting things to do.
Turns out that the the Mystery Spot is just up the freeway at San Jose!
The The Mystery Spot is something that really has to be more experienced than just seen. I was literally dizzy from the moment I crossed the boundary line until after we left. Which was kind of fun in and of itself. The area is really pretty too, worth the drive.
The optical illusions that happen around there are just weird, but fun. People shrink and grow, while walking on level ground, balls roll uphill Anyone passing through Nor Cal, I totally recommend it. And it's like $5.
From there, we wandered around a beach, found a bizzare mystery substance, watched a para glider, found a seagull skull and wandered around for a bit.
Went to Cannery Row & Ocean for dinner, thinking we'd just wander around. The parking lot attendant gave us a coupon for a free appetizer at one of the fancier restaurants, which we did end up eventually eating at. Which worked out well, with the coupon, it cost about the same as two people at Denny's. \o/
Found a Silver Shop that had everything half off, so we wandered inside. Neechan found a pair of earrings she likes... One is a male/male symbol, the other is female/female. And a hematite ring that actually fits her.
Ended up talking to one of the ladies who worked there about Jade, she could identify where the majority of my Jade comes from. Other than the Greenstone necklace, all of my lovely dark green Jade is Canadian. *purrrrrrs* Yet another reason to go to Canada.
There's various colours of Jade found in Big Sur, she goes walking there frequently to find Jade. She gave me a piece of blue Jade and a smaller piece of black Jade she'd found there on her last trip, because I like Jade. #^^# I gave her a bracelet as a thank you. *wiggles happily* She was surprised. But... Jade!!! Dark Jade! ^_______^
Cannery Row as empty too, evidently we're hitting Nor Cal during the slow season. Which ROCKS. Want to come back around this time again, but with more money so we can hit like the Aquarium and stuff.
Good day, came back to the motel feeling satisfied.
Introduced 'Neechan to Boston Legal. XD She'd never seen it before. Most of the characters are new, but Alan and Denny are still holding hands, drinking scotch and smoking cigars, so it's all good. *laughs*
