Prince of Tennis

-Pardon if there are typos in today's entry, the 'g', 'h' and 'j' keys came off due to a random cat's claw getting loose under the keys and they haven't quite gotten back on straight since, which is making typing interesting. ~_~

So. Have now tracked down and read volumes 1-34 of Prince of Tennis aka Tennis no Oujisama aka TeniPuri aka PoT manga in the past three days.

Um... honestly? M'not entirely sure I understand the hype. Pretty boys, okay somewhat, yes. But kinda boring. Most of the time I'm waiting for them to stop fwapping around with their little balls and do something interesting. Like play with bigger balls.

That said, the main highlights for us:
• Bowling chapters.
• Beach volleyball chapters. (Go Coaches!)
• Split-personality man and "ZOMBIES!! THEY'RE ALIVVVVVVVVVVVE!!" during a personality test.
• Middle of chapter 296, stealing the catchphrase, snark, followed by both players having a random mad cackling contest at each other.
• Um... to the one character who likes to looks kinda like Akira from Hikago who likes play to tennis upside down in midair and gives us nice belly shots. I think you missed your calling. Where were you during the beach volleyball game?
• Eiji. Eiji is love. Especially with Oishi. Golden Pair OTP!
• ... Momo needs to go out drinking with Sano from RK, cause they're like long lost brothers or something...

Am also somewhat convinced that Toyama Kintarou is related to Toyama Kazuha from DC. The kanji on the last names is even the same. (遠山)

And seriously?! These guys are in MIDDLE SCHOOL?! WTF. High School is believable. Middle School? Nah-uh.

Now, that being said, I will prolly finish off reading the last volumes tomorrow and will have achieved my true goal!!! and reached enlightenment!!!

Heard enough horror stories to want to stay faaaaaar faaaaaaaaaaar away. Think it's one of the more rabid fandoms out there.

So yay for more ficcage we can read and understand, no on creating for it. There's enough fangirls for the series as it is.

... although I may try to track down the Bowling and Beach Volleyball episodes if they did put those in the anime. Cause lots of fun. ^___^

Now Eyesheild 21 on the other hand, that I may have to introduce you to. Himura is PSYCHOTIC LOVE. >D XD >D

I'm pretty sure that they did both the bowling and volleyball episodes along with some other non-tennis specials. I believe they made 'Prince of Billiards' and 'Prince of Tabletennis' episodes. ^^

I'm getting the feeling that the anime is better than the manga, but I prefer manga so I can read it at my own pace, which is faster than watching all 178? episodes of the anime, plus OVAs

Some of the fics I've read so far have been really good. ^^;; It's nice to finally understand who the characters are.

Series wise, I like Eiji the best, but fandom wise, Kaidoh is rapidly becoming my favourite. Hard to argue with a guy who hisses like a snake. XD

Yeah, I was a Tenipuri fan, and honestly? I think the hype is, for 12-year-old boys, Dragonball-like battles, and for girls, cute guys and yaoi potential.

It's not that good, I'll admit it. But one thing that makes its fandom so huge (aside from the yaoi; there's enough boys for infinite permutations) is the crack; it's so bad it's good.

If you want to know what that means, check out the Prince of Tennis stage Musical. That is THE essence of the Tenipuri fandom.
(Personally, I like Tenipuri, but don't love it anymore. Too many scary fangirls.)

Yes, I just tend to FORGET that middle school fact. ^^ (really is too hard to believe)

Really it's more the anime than the manga.
ANN review of the DVD totally ripped the series...

I hate tennis, I love this series (started with the anime 2002).

I think in my head we just kind of edited it to say 'High School' instead of 'Middle School' and 'College' instead of 'High School'. It made so much more sense that way.

Ah come on, 176 episodes is NOTHING for a Conan fan ^^;; OVA 1 was 13eps, OVA 2 (direct continuation) is at 2 for now. I'm behind in my OVA watching. The manga I'm still back at Vol33 (JP, where you manage to find ALL of it online??) VIZ version is crap.

Oops, and the movie with Atobe special. Complete crack.

Hmmm... Fudomine and Hyotei arc episodes. Been a little to long for me to pull actual episode numbers out.

Lots of people have told me I need to get into it...but thus far, I think I'm more interested in the size of the fandom than the actual series. It seems like one of those fandoms with two complete lists o' characters. Pick one from Column A, and pick one from Column B, and commence the snogging. That always amuses me ^^

There do seem to be some definite pairings, Fuki/Tezuka, Inui/Kaidoh, Oishi/Eiji and the occasional Momo/Ryoma (which would totally be pedo if I actually thought Ryoma was really 12, which I strongly DOUBT.)

But other than that, yeah, it does seem to be rather mix and match. ^^;;
