Request: Crystal Mother Japanese Help Please

Okay... quick bit of back story. When I created the Kaitou Kid Reference Page in Feb 2005, we didn't have the raws for Crystal Mother at all.

What we did have however, was a subbed copy of OVA 4 that we got off of edogawaconan.com in 2004, back when it was still up and running and had media.

Which had this for the mother's name and title:

'Elisabeth, Queen of England'. It's really not easy to make out the 'kana.

Then Kaizou released their version of OVA 4 in 2006, which had this for the mother's name and title:

'Selizabeth, Queen of the Principality of Ingram'.

... can you have a Queen of a Principality? (I don't always trust Kaizou's translations, but that's another rant matter.)

So then we finally got our hands Magic Kaito Volume 4, with the orginal manga chapter. And for her name and title we get:

イングラム公国女王
- セリザベス -

A '公国 (こうこく)' is a Dukedom/Dutchy/Principality and '女王' is 'Queen'. But a Dukedom is run by a Queen-? Bwah?

Should we just say that she is the 'Monarch'? And should it be 'Elisabeth', or 'Selizabeth' like the katakana reads?

Help!!! I think I'm over-thinking!!!

(Another factor is that Gosho doesn't always seem get British culture right. I.E, file 563/vol 54 ch 10, Hakuba stating that foreign students in high school can wear ordinary clothes. This is not true in the English school system, which he would be attending if he is going to school in London.
On the other hand, we're willing to be convinced that Saguru is pulling Heiji's leg so he doesn't have to change clothes and wear the Ekoda school uniform, which is similar to Heiji's. ^^;; )

o.o no idea on the dukedom/dutchy/thingy XD all I saw was Kanji sorta similar to country XD not that far yet-

On the (S)elizabeth.... On one hand Elizabeth would make the most sense... however there is the whole twist on names things that happens alot of times when your basing it off characters etc... so mebbie it is Selizabeth to play off of Queen Elizabeth but seperate the identies...

Now I'm thinking too hard >>

*pats* S'okay. Usually when you see me working on the websites, it means that I have some sort of headache anyway, so my brain isn't working at full power either... it's the only time we can do html. ^^;;

The 'Selizabeth' kinda hurts my head, but the 'Queen' of a 'Dutchy' is what kills me... Dukedoms are run by Prince/Princesses or below, hence the name. 0_o
Yet in the Kaizou translation, Philip repeatedly says 'His Country'. *Shrugs* Dunno. ^^;;

That depends on the school. Most have uniforms, but there are a few schools where there's a 'dress standard' and as long as the childrens' clothes meet the standard, they are allowed to wear ordinary clothes. Not many, though.

There's that, but as the generic English boys' school uniform is: black/grey slacks, white button-down shirt with school crest on shirt pocket and tie to match the colour of the slacks (non-generic uniforms tend to have the slacks and tie in the school colours and a matching blazer and hat), it really wouldn't be hard for Hakuba to say something like "I'm not wearing a suit, this IS my school uniform!"

I had actually wondered about the possiblity of it actually being his London school uniform, since the posh school in Christchurch had striped suits and ties. They looked kind of like something out of The Nightmare before Christmas, actually...

When that chapter first came out, I asked my friends who had gone to school in New Zealand, and the one who grew up in England about the school uniforms and pretty much got laughed at about the not wearing the uniform thing. I couldn't find anything on line for not wearing uniforms in British schools online either. ^^;;
Evidently America's really the only one known for not wearing school uniforms, and that's starting to change.

I'm still wondering if Gosho just didn't want to research English school uniforms, because then we'd have a better idea of which school Saguru went to other than "London Bridge School".
... Or maybe Kaitou Ann is right and Saguru's really going to Eton! XD *scurries away before we can be hit* ^___^

Well, "Elizabeth" definitely sounds more natural, but the katakana does say "Selizabeth". If you ask me, I think you should stick with the katakana reading, simply because that is what's there.
I don't know about the kingdom thing.

Sorry, but last year we talked to him, and he was totally lost!
Although he talkes a lot about england and somtimes even his
characters speak english (Like jodie or vermounth) Gosho does non of the translations!
His editors do these kind of stuff ^^"

So overall, like Beika is to Baker, Queen of Ingram Duchy, Selizabeth (something close to Queen Elizabeth of England).

After reading everyone else's enteries, I think it would be best to say that her name is a play on "Elizabeth" and they made up a completely messed up title for her. XD

School Uniforms

Can help with English school uniforms, my brother went to several different English schools. One in Peterborough, one in Sawtry, one in Cambridge, etc.
They all had uniforms.
Fortunately, they aren't all as formal as what you were describing.
One was, a jumper with school logo, white polo shirt with school logo and dark slacks, and all the others were black/navy blue blazers with school logo, dark slacks in same colour, tie in striped school colours, and a white button up with school logo on the breast pocket. No caps, thank god. He would've looked like a prat.
They also have weird uniform regulations like doing the tie so three stripes of colour appear. Otherwise you can get a detention (My brother once did it to three stripes, but put it around his forehead. *giggle*).
