~To the Police in Detective Conan.

*laughs weakly* Aunty Icka really should stop doing random research and creating data sites. But there have been some questions recently about various police characters, so...

This is what we have after about an hour and a half of poking at stuff:

(note: 'Keiji/刑事' means 'officer'. Those with 'Keiji' listed mean we don't know their name yet)

Hakuba - 警視総監 白馬
First Appearance: Volume 3, chapter 2, Magic Kaito
Metropolitan Chief of Police, Commissioner Hakuba. Saguru's Father.

Matsumoto Kiyonaga - 松本 清長

Satou Miwako - 佐藤美和子

Investigation Department One's Elite. Likes Inspector Satou, thus often masterminds sabotages for Satou and Takagi's dates.

Obviously, quite a bit of it needs to be fleshed out. But it is a start.

Unlike Heiji and Kaitou Kid who show up occasionally, these guys have a habit of appearing a LOT. So therefore we're not going to list Every Single Case the various police officers appear in.

So. Question time.

We're planning on listing the 'Metropolitan Police Love Stories' and Tokyo Tower one. Are there any other notable chapters/story arcs that spring to mind that should be listed?

Should we include the FBI members in the list? We're a little hesitant about that. In our humble opinion, they should be included in a Black Ops site instead of a police site, since they're inextricable to those plots....

Are we missing anyone?

Any particular data you'd like to see? (we've already listed all the ages we could find. ~_~ blargh)

Anything else?

Bueller?

Wow, I applaud your work. O_O

In my own humble opinion, I think the FBI members should not be included for the exact reason you mentioned. ^_^

#^^# Think we're used to making these now, this'll be the fourth Data Site.

*nods* Shall pass on the FBI to Dagron then. *cackles quietly*

Did you get the cop from the fire department that appeared in the Red Horse case book 39?
If I recall well he and Kogoro worked together at one point...

*Does some quick research...*
Inspector Yuminaga from the Arson Department.
He supervised Kogoro for the short time he was in the Arson squad.

Probably anecdotic, but good to know I guess? ^^;

And yeah, I agree, FBI are probably better off on a MIB site. Which I should probably discuss doing with Ladybug in the near future. >_>;

Hahaha. There are a lot of cases with the cops, ain't there? And quite a few of them centred on them too (mainly Sato and Takagi, heh.)

Anyway: *applauds*!

Thank you, Dagron!

... I wonder if the Arson Department is another number.
In the 6th OVA it was stated that 'Theft' is Department Three, which makes me wonder what Departments One and Two's offical jobs are. (when translated into english that is. 'Major Crime' and -?)

Well.... it kinda makes sense for there to be a lot of Police in the cases. Someone dies, someone screams, someone calls the cops. Happens in a great deal of the cases. #^^# But definately not complaining if it includes Sato or Takagi. ^_________^

-that reminds me, we still have to name this thing...

And like I said on chat, if you need help with the B.ops stuff, lemme know. ^__^

Hagiwara's kanji is 萩原. For some reason you got his kanji last name as keiji.

Sango Yokomizo is also known as 正文 (Masafumi) in DC anime 009. Few people knew this, I suppose.

And, that is Yokomizo's first appearance.

Sato's father?

Also I have the impression that Chaki is not just a normal policeman in Department 2. I think he might have a similar status as Megure or even Matsumoto... Either way, I have the impression that he is Nakamori's boss.

From: [identity profile] impfics.livejournal.com
Eeep! Forgot about him!

Masayoshi Satou 佐藤 正義
First Appearance: File 267
Sato Miwako's father, a former policeman who died on a case 18 years ago, leaving the clue 'Shushiro' behind.

*nods* Will correct the Chaki entry, cause I vaugely remember him being Nakamori's boss as well. ^^;;

I second the opinion on the FBI. True they are a kind of law enforcement but your info is covering those on the Metreopolitan Police force. ^_^

Got the kanji for "Wataru" => 高木渉 Takagi Wataru

::scratched head:: Keiji/刑事 doesn't mean officer, it means 'police detective' (like Sato-keiji and Takagi-keiji). Keikan/警官 means 'police officer.' Keibu/警部 means 'police inspector' (like Megure-keibu and Shiratori-keibu).

And those titles don't even get into what their actual ranks are. I think Sato is one rank about Takagi (he is a sergeant).

::snickers:: Want help cleaning up your information? ^_~ I learned that the manga scans, especially the older ones, a full of errors when it comes to titles. Probably because some were translated from other languages after being translated from Japanese. And the bad info just keeps spreading.

Date: 2006-09-14 10:32 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] impfics.livejournal.com
Actually, it does help, yes. ^__^ Thank you.

The data that I'm getting in Japanese keeps stating that Satou is a rank above Takagi, but it doesn't really state -what- rank. I'll go poking into those a bit more.

What I need to find, is a site that explains the Japanese Police Heirarchy. Can find stuff for the American, but not the Japanese.

Hmm... According to my favourite data site, there are 61 Keiji (13 nameless), 10 Keikan (all nameless) and 9 Keibu, including Otogi who watches over Heiji.
-these are just the characters without a given name. #^^#

Will keep your offer of help in mind if we get stuck. And if you do spot any errors, please feel free to point them out. The stopping of miss-information was one of the reasons why we started these pages. (gathering information from the original MK scanlations was a pain and often wrong, as you can see in our early stuff on ff.net)

Takagi's actually got three spellings of his name that I can find. He started out as 'ワタル', then it's '渉' in the Drill, something else on the Conan Movie Characters Page (http://www.conan-movie.jp/chara.html).
渉 is his seiyuu, I wonder if they keep changing their minds on the spelling after they decided to name the character after them.

Ah, good. I hate repeating what others say.

I admit that I don't know the Japanese Police Heirarchy either. But in the third volume of the English release of The Kindaichi Case Files (which I am collecting), then this diagram (http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e131/Ytak2/Japanesepoliceranks.jpg) shows the heirarchy. In lew of anything else, I'm willing to go with it.

You sure about the movie characters page? I see the kanji for keiji following Takagi (don't see Wataru anywhere except for the seiyuu's name).

From: [identity profile] hoshi-ryo.livejournal.com
...right, I'll settle down and scan the flowcharts I have explaining the Japanese police heirarchy -- but I'm going to insist you contact me privately for them, as I don't want to post them publicly.

Hagiwara's full name is Hagiwara Kenji. (As noted by Samuel Curtis above, you wrote Keiji.)

Kanji in full would be 萩原研二.

Anou ... wasn't Shiratori's first appearance the 2nd movie? He's an anime character to start with isn't he??

FBI play by different rules, so they belong elsewhere. :)

Takagi didn't have a first name ... think "they" (Gosho?) just picked Wataru somewhere along the way since that's Takagi's (his seiyuu) first name. And for Takagi detective, it is ワタル (detective conan movie book and elsewhere shown as) not the Kanji (ytak posted)

Great job icka!!!

They keep changing it.

It's a third different spelling here:

I think fbi should go on a B.O. page as well, Since they aren't really police. However, did you get that police man who is there in that flash back episode arc, you know, the one in New York? I don't think you metioned it yet.

The Golden Apple arc with Shinichi mean? If so, that's Akai Shuichi (FBI) which icka has listed.

Or mean the cop that pulled Yukiko over? The big guy (detective chief?) on the sidewalk was Sharon in disguise.

Date: 2006-09-16 02:19 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] amishamj.livejournal.com
I mean the officer thatwas working on the case. Im not sure what his name was, but he was in the theator when yukiko "solved" the case and then she drove off with him to give her testimony. wasn't sharon in disguise that japanses guy with silver hair?, remember, in episode 365, vermouth(sharon/chris) has a flash back of shinichi saving her life, even if she tried to kill him.

Date: 2006-09-16 04:41 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] sekitx2.livejournal.com
Yes, Sharon was dressed up as the serial killer but before that, when Yukiko arrived at the theatre in her Porsche, Sharon was the NYPD captain that got her out of the ticket Yukiko was going to get for speeding ... he was bald with a moustache ... I can't make the katakana for the first name, I think his last is Redwood?

ラディツシュ レッドウッド (警部 =Keibu = Captain (in English in the manga))
= Radeishuu (Radish?!) Reddouddo (Redwood?)

When Yukiko "solved" the case the real captain was there and an African American officer with glasses ... who was never referenced with a name (that I can tell).

NY arc is in manga 34 and into 35

Hmmmm....

B.O. tend to pass them selves off as FBI,(or CIA or No Such Agency) but FBI arn't really Black ops eather. Perhaps a seperate 'Feds' list, though it seems already decided to lump them in w/ BO.

It's not just Takagi with the same name as the seiyuu, Chiba's voiced by Isshin Chiba. Also Akai Shuichi is voiced by Ikeda Shuichi, best known for his role in Gundam as Char Aznable, nicknamed the red comet. There's too many of them to be coincidences there.
