Right. So. Realising I may have written myself into a bit of a corner.
Thanks to
tdei's wager request, we're reverse engineering 'The Grey Zone' from it's sequel 'The Grey Agency'. So currently writing two story arcs, one forwards, one backwards. (ha-ha, watch Icka's brain melt)
Just found out that Japan doesn't allow dual citizenship. But Britain does. I'd assumed that Saguru, his Mum being British and his Otousan being Japanese, would have Dual Citizenship.
Which, upon some research, he does. Because he's underaged.
But once he turns 20, he must choose before he's 22 -which- nationality he is. If he does not, he may find that Japan may not recognise one of his citizenships. And probably some other legal problems that I know I read but am currently blanking on.
In TGZ, Kaito and Saguru are 19, but in TGA, they're 20. Ba-bum-bum.
The reason why this is a plot problem because in TGZ/TGA, we've got that whole 'Viscount' thing. (which I think we didn't screw up. If Dorian's an Earl, has no male heirs, but his sister has a son, he should be able pass the title along because it's still the same bloodline...)
Reason why this is a consideration, is because a Viscount and an Earl can be elected to the House of Lords, which is the Upper House of the British Parliament. (if I've got any of this wrong, feel free to correct me). Which means, theoretically (this is a fanfic, after all) Saguru could wield political power.
Ha-ha. Scary, huh? Not a clue if it's actually possible, but the thought is funny.
So. Saguru's got a choice to make. British or Japanese. If he goes Japanese, what's he going to do about the whole Viscount thing (pretty sure he'd have to give it up), and if he goes British, what about Kaito and the rest of his friends/life in Japan?
Anyway, since we already flubbed the whole passport thing, (ha-ha, haven't a clue) which we really hate doing and really should fix sometime, we're trying to get our facts correct in advance.
Anyway. Thoughts? Anyone who actually knows this stuff? Anything we're tossing out make sense? @_@;;
Random Research:
The wiki on Japanese Family Registry for those we were talking to in chat a few days ago.
And Hojojutsu, which as part of the curriculum learned by modern Japanese police officers has spawned a cute little Detective Conan plunnie that keeps staring at us but won't grow into anything writable. Think Sato and Takagi. *chortles madly*

Nationality problems.
I know I had the chance to pick up French Nationality when I turned 18 (I think) because I had lived in France for about ten+ of my underage years. Trouble was I already had british-kiwi duo-nationality and didn't want to give both up for a French passport, especially since being a European National gave me more or less the same rights (minus voting rights).
Also, if you're born in France, even if neither of your parents are french, and even if it's just in passing across the territory in a plane you are automatically French...
But you only become Grec when born in Greece if your Not-Greek Parents aren't maried or you're a boy and they can use you in the army (I think, must have changed since.) Otherwise you just take on your parent's nationality/ies.
Would Saguru's mom have duo-nationality?
(I think in France one way to get duo-nationality is to wed a french national. Same in NZ I suppose
since my Dad missed his chance for a Kiwi-passport by being too lazy to file the papers in after his marriage =cD.)(Reads linkage.) Ah. So Saguru's mom must have chosen whther she was Japanese or not... (Might be the reason she's not in Japan though... The visa process must be pretty mind breaking.)
%Scratches head and decides to look up dual-nationality laws for herself sometime soon.%
I can see where this all gets confuzzling. @.@;

Date: 2006-07-25 07:41 pm (UTC)Could Hakuba choose British nationality, get married with Kaito in like the US (or Europe) where it's legal, and then through marrying Kaito be kind of counted as a Japanese citizen?
...
::cough:: Much love, Icka!;;; I didn't really expect to cause such chaos... ._. (Thank you~)

Date: 2006-07-25 09:28 pm (UTC)No worries, I'm mostly using you as a convient excuse. ^___^ We'd have to think of these things sooner or later.
Um... as far as the marriage thing, the UK has Civil Union (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Civil_union), which, if I'm reading the article (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Civil_union#United_Kingdom") correctly, means Kaito would have living rights in the UK.
The problem being that Japan probably would not recgoinse either the civil union or the dual residency.
-but, they're 20, I don't think this is a problem that's gonna be an imediate concern in TGA, it's just something to think about.

Date: 2006-07-25 11:08 pm (UTC)Nnngh. You're a horrible person, Icka, and I want to write this. No promises, but I do. Auntie Chat... Wouldn't she just LOVE Tamaki? She'd want to keep him and Hakuba as her Pet Blonds.
My brain also keeps distracting me with Eroica's reaction to the Twins...
And btw, I have the Tucson thing just about done-- sorry it took so long.

Date: 2006-07-26 12:45 am (UTC)Or.... what if Chat Noir grew up with Tamaki's Mom? So Tamaki calls her 'Auntie'?
... Y'know, Eroica may have Klaus, but the twins would probably be a real temptation for him...
No worries on the Tucson thing. ^__^ Lemme know when you get it done, still wanna see if we can draw 'Guru and Kaito in the harem outfits. ^_________^

Date: 2006-07-26 12:53 am (UTC)It would be a serious consideration, I think, if this fic continues past TGA, cause there's probably some age restrictions and reptuation things to worry about. But at this point, it's just a fun idea. ^^;;
