For some odd reason, reading Donuts (Doumeki/Watanuki from xxxHolic) today. Huh. Anyone have any good recs?

Kaito wasn't even aware that Amtrak had steam engine trains. But the conductor had taken their tickets without hesitation, so on a steam train they were riding.

Saguru was happy as a geek with a new toy. He hadn't quite been -bouncing-, the half-Briton had too much dignity for that, but it had been damn close as the detective looked around.

Kaito had trailed behind, feeling fondly indulgent as he made a mental note to try to find more historic things for them to visit. American didn't have quite the same depth of history that Europe did, but there had to be some things that Saguru would enjoy.

So they explored the train, getting funny looks from the people as they passed --for once, Saguru's really retro style would have blended in nicely-- until they reached the baggage car.

Where Kaito's sort of luck came into play and they found a poker game. Which, after being sized up as a suitable sucker, they were invited to join by a guy with silver hair and a strange tattoo over his left eye. A spiky redhead with an eye-patch over his right eye had tried to wave them away, but Kaito had grinned and taken the challenge.

He wasn't quite sure if he was pleased that he had or not. It was rare that he ran across someone who was -good- at cheating at poker. Most of the guy's tricks were so subtle Kaito barely caught them.

It was even rarer to meet someone of his same skill level.

Exact. Same. Skill. Level.

He and the silver haired guy who had introduced himself as 'Allen Walker' grinned at each other, like sharks frustrated at the lack of a kill. On the table were their cards, Kaito's hand hold two aces, two kings and a two. Allen also had two aces, two kings and a two.

The previous hand, Kaito had held a royal flush, all hearts. Allen had also had a royal flush, all diamonds.

This.... was getting ridiculous.

"You're pretty good." Allen drawled pleasantly, his voice all daggers-sheathed-in-velvet while is friend, Rabi, looked on worriedly.

"Thanks." Kaito drawled back. "So are you." In the background, Saguru flinched. Both he and Rabi were nervously pressed up against each other, ready to flee or grab their respective friend at a moment's notice.

Allen leaned forward. "Teach me some of your tricks and I'll teach you some of mine."

Kaito held his hand out, the silver-haired boy taking it and they shook on it. "Deal."

Ah, the joys of learning.

Saguru stared at the large suit of armour sitting on the seats across from them. Kaito gaved Saguru a worried look and tried to ignore the intense gaze of the golden-eyed blond sitting protectively next to the giant suit of armour.

This had been going on for a while and it was starting to make him uncomfortable.

And he was sure that Amtrak didn't have any steam engine trains. He'd checked after the ride on the last one.

Finally Saguru cleared his throat. "You.... look familiar." He hesitantly, oh-so-politely, broached the topic. "Have we met before?"

The suit of armour turned and looked towards him. "I don't know... I was thinking you seemed familar to me too." The polite voice coming from the armour was smaller than expected, as well as much much younger.

Kaito resisted the urge to pound his head against the back of his seat. What was somone in a giant suit of armour doing on a train anyway?

... well, aside from the fact that there was no way in hell someone in a giant suit of armour would make it through airport security.

"Have you ever been to New York?" Saguru inquired.

The armour seemed to think it over. "No. Are you from Amestris?"

"No." Saguru shook his head. "Frankfurt?"

"No... Xing?"

"No... Paris?"

Kaito sighed and pulled out a chocolate bar. After a moment's deliberation, he broke it in half and offered the other blond kid half. The boy took half, giving him a slight smile in return as he motioned to the large suit of armour and Saguru as if to say 'What about those two, eh?'.

"No... Aerugo?"

Kaito grinned back, rolling his eyes as he settled back in his seat. They'd probably be at this for a while.

-Politely, of course.

-FullMetal Alchemist's Ed and Al were in the London bookshop during TGZ: Into the Mystic.
... it could also be considered a bit of a nod to our *cringe* MK/FMA crossover, That Blasted Red Stone, where Hakuba and Al also do the back and forth polite thing.

Allen Walker and Rabi are from D.Gray-man. We can't remember where we put our scanlations, but I think the trains are steam powered, since it's supposed to take place early 19th century-ish.
-Allen learned to cheat a poker to pay off his Teacher's depts while travelling.

As far as how Saguru and Kaito keep ending up in trains in different realities *cough*Ducks!*cough*, we have no clue. They just do. Weird 4th Dimension Logic or something.

Bwahahaha!

*grins* STill like the FMA one even though I saw you chatspam it, too. ^^

Ack! A TGZ I missed!?

...not only one I missed, but one that REVELS IN THE REFERENCES and links me to a Gargoyles fic I haven't read! GLEE!

*loves on you* ♥

er... the FMA plunnie just figured itself out before the D.Gray-man one did... but you'll note that when it was chatspamed, there were references to the D.Gray-man one.

-I swear, sometimes it feels like the Voices are playing Fic Chess in my head, connecting things without my realising it. Cause even that stupid Knight Rider plunnie (which we need to fix)? Is gonna be refered to/a plot point later. -_- Seriously. Geh.

Well, that's actually a good sign for a writer, if their muses knows what's going on in the story. I remember how I've been shocked to have things randomly connect like that...O_o;;;

It may be the sign of a good writer, but really, it's just kinda eerie... ^^;;

O.O

Oh god....A Knight Rider plunnie?!?!? lol!!! ^o^ I used to love that show. Hee hee hee Though I think I would prefer a Forever Knight crossover...hmm.....I think my sleep deprived brain just exploded.

Excuse me while I clean up the mess before my roommate complains.

*cracks up* I'm so loving the trains~! You meet such interesting people when you travel~!

And getting Al and Saguru talking and trying to figure out how they know each other is just HILARIOUS. Kaito and Ed are right...they could be at it for HOURS with their politeness. XDD

Actually... yeah, you do meet a lot of interesting people on the trains when you travel. #^^# Some of them more interesting than you realise.... ^^;;

It's the war of the politeness!!! XD

Amusing as always. I didn't notice those little grammatical errors that you claim plague you. I think the plunny for the little Hawaii adventure has bit. Hopefully, I can rewrite it tonight.

Ysabet told me to ask you how chocolate dipped wasabi peas taste. So, how do they taste?

From: [identity profile] ickaimp.livejournal.com
sweet and spicy.
(was my fault we started eating them to begin with)
Um... usually eat a handfull of mixed dark chocolate chips and wasabi peas... The bittersweet dark chocolate takes out the burning spicyness of the wasabi, while the contrast enhances the flavour of the chocolate.
And to top it off, it's crunchy. Bonus!!!

Eh, same grammer errors. It's just that I always repeat the same ones over and over, so have kinda created my own grammer. Most grammer-whores I hang out with have stopped careing as long as they're always the same mistakes.

Yay! Hawai'i!!!
I swear, you're a lot farther along the plot than I am. Must catch up!

I'm kind of afraid to try the combination. But crunchy is good.

Yay! Hawai'i!!!

I am? o.O
Happily, I discovered I *don't* have to rewrite the whole thing. It just needs to be expanded and elaborated on in some parts. All 500+ words of it.

Hey, if you're on, show up in chat! XD

Yup. You can't strangle a good plunnie enough to get it to go away.

... and yeah, y'know, in retrospect, that line could have REALLY been taken the wrong way.

...Icka? You have my love, adoration and you can even have my firstborn. xD OMG! D.Gray-man AND FMA(again!)~!!!

I do think it was a steam train in DGM. Tho I'm a bit sad there's only only Rabi and Allen. xD They do fit best in that scene though.

Um... I thank you for the offer of the first born, but will pass. I'm not very good with kids. #^^#

Yay! Good, I'm glad I got the train right. And I'm sorry... I just can't get a good enough grasp on Aleister or Rinali to fit them in. ^^;;

**reads second train fic** Heh heh... So: we now have a new idea to play with, i.e., Train Space. "All trains are actually one train and disembark at platforms within all worlds and in all times; you just have to make sure you get on and off at the RIGHT MOMENT." I like that. That means that I could get on at the local Amtrak station and disembark at, say, 19th-century Brighton, England. Or 1930's Amsterdam. Or wherever the Galaxy Express happens to be stopping. Wheeeeeeeeew. That's almost better than L-Space!

Oh, and I loved the first fic too! Was too caught up in the Train Space thought and forgot to mention it. **snicker** I'd be nervous too... and you know, Train Space explains how they ended up on a steam train too! Icka, you ARE a genius! **dances**
