Yes, yes, I know offically it's 'Twilight Mansion', but we first learned it as 'Sunset' and like that mental picture better. More golden-y and less midnight blue and silver-y.
This is mostly notes for myself anyway, so feel free to either ignore or debate.
At the end of the chapter, Senma-obaasan makes a comment to Kid about the younger members of the gathered detecives. (I find it highly amusing that if you watch, Hakuba's almost always right next to 'Mouri' when they're walking as a group)
According to the HKs and scanlations I have, he comments back:
"Who are they? Perhaps they're the lover I least want to meet."
(According to the Conan vs the Kid Perfect Edition it's:
"Who is that guy?"
"Huh, he is kind of my sweetheart I want to avoid.")
Conan and Hakuba are the only ones in the frame that Kid is looking at, so it -could- be meant for either one of them, depending on your preference. (y'all prolly know mine. shaddup.)
A discussion one time brought up the fact that the 'lover I least want to meet' was a mocking a quote by Sherlock Holmes.
"'Journeys end in lovers' meetings,' as the old play says." Holmes comments to Colonel Sebastian Moran in "The Adventure of the Empty House."
The quote is actually from Shakespeare's play, Twelfth Night. Act ii. Sc. 3.
"Journeys end in lovers meeting, Every wise man's son doth know."
So... if he meets up with his 'lover' (either Conan or Hakuba depending on your preference), his journey is at an end because he is caught? Thus his reluctance to meet them?

Date: 2005-08-30 12:43 pm (UTC)...is it bad that I thought of Conan/Shinichi when I first read that chapter? XDD *is a bit amused by that*

Date: 2005-08-30 04:47 pm (UTC)That said, I also think most people are going to choose Conan and not even consider Hakuba. Hakuba's from MK and there are DC fans who haven't a clue about MK, so may not know that he's a re-accuring character. (despite his oh-so dramatic entrance)
Not to mention that Gosho has a lot of fun playing up that whole 'Rivals chosen by Fate' between Conan and Kid. (
bullshitimho) ^^;;I just default over to Hakuba there, cause he's one of my favourite characters. #^_^#
