Problems and Solutions.
Feb. 14th, 2005 02:58 pmI have a couple of problems.
One:
I have too much manga. About 400 tankubon and 200 (mostly DC, mostly yaoi) doujinshi to be exact. Gut feeling says that we're moving soon, so really would like to see that cut at least in half. It was most of the bulk and weight the last time I moved.
Two:
Japan trip looming at the end of March. *panic, panic* We need money for hotel and transportation. (plane ticket is taken care of)
Solution:
Sell the manga and doujinshi.
Um... will be seeing about getting a list up of manga to see if anyone wants them, seeing as we can't get to the one in LJ memories. (Dogmatix, y'want my YGO?)
But what would people consider being a fair price for manga and doujinshi?

Date: 2005-02-14 10:37 pm (UTC)Erk... forgot to mention... that's one of my problems.
Kinda have a mixed lot. Some manga I paid as little as $1 (american), some I've paid as much as $11. If I get it new here, it's between $6-8 dollars.
And I can't bloody well remember which was which. >_

Date: 2005-02-14 10:48 pm (UTC)It's just that the only way I can pay for anything in/from the US is via Paypal. No credit card (they're a lot harder to get here), no money orders without hideous fees etc. >_>

Date: 2005-02-16 02:12 am (UTC)So smack the price right in the middle and call it done. I usually pay between $6-12 for 'em on eBay. Unless it's something I want really bad. ^_^ I agree with Ysabet and tdei - if it's worth something extra, or special to you, call it a higher price. *shrugs* Don't think anyone here will begrudge you that.

Date: 2005-02-16 10:12 pm (UTC)I have quite a few Kaito/Shin'ichi. #^^# Not so many with Conan, tho will double check. >_< (my basic rule of thumb when doujinshi shopping: if it has Conan on the cover, skip it. That thing with Heiji's hair has perminately scarred me in that aspect.)
Anything with Hakuba in it is super hard to find, but there are a few that I'm willing to part with. The rest of that pairing are MINE!!! mwuahahahahahahaaaaa!!!! >D

Date: 2005-02-14 11:30 pm (UTC)If the manga isn't the licensed English version, then I think $4~5 sounds about right. Licensed English stuff going for a bit less their list price tends to be better to sell (since most people would be like: What's the point of buying that off Ebay when I can order it from my local store for less?)
As for the doujinshi, it varies. For older series like say GW, etc. the prices seem to tend to be lower-- the $6~12 range as a starting point. For newer, more popular series, the start price can get pretty high, say like $12-20. ^^ Most of the time the $9.99 thing is a good point to start from on Ebay. =_=; Then again for series that don't seem to ever be on ebay, it's a 50-50 gamble whether this means no one wants it or there's a few crazies out there dying to get their hands on it. The more "popular" a djka is in a fandom, the better end bid you'll get on it.
Ebay aside, I hear the common price for djs up to most with 60 pages in length runs from $4~20. I think you can try pricing a bit higher for larger/thicker books if you want, but it's chancy whether someone would take it. Umm... I would also suggest for djs you personally like but are willing to sell to price it closer to a price you'd let it go at rather than keep.
=) Hope that helped.

Date: 2005-02-15 03:59 am (UTC)YGO manga - I have a rather spotty collection ranging through the series XD;; So I'd have to check and see which ones I already have, and thanks for the offer! :D I know I got two or so volumes of Jigoku Sensei Nube from ya at one stage, but can't seem to remember if you had other volumes.... if you do, then those I'll definitely buy. XD

Yes, it's the kitsune who occasionally randomly posts in here -_-;; Actually this is funny cause Elf when she heard I was gonna go to Japan for a trip reccommended I get in touch with you for advice of where to go/stay etc. I'm gonna be there mid-March til beginning of April, and had forgotten all about her advice until today, then I check and see this *laughs* so, um, any advice on where's good?

Date: 2005-02-15 08:16 am (UTC)For doujinshi, the price will vary a great deal depending on the series, supply and demand. I generally pay $10-$20 for a doujinshi on Ebay, but you might find that flooded markets will cause some to sell for less. My biggest tip is that, if you want to sell your doujinshi, mark them WELL. Give series, pairings, a rough plot summary, and at least one internal picture in addition to the cover. Doing that should about double the sale price that you get. If you sell em on Ebay, avoid words like "hentai" that get auctions and users banned, but be sure to mark explicit ones. The word "Explicit" itself seems the most popular way to do that.
Now, for the manga. Is it Raw or English or both? I think the English stuff will probably sell better, but 've little idea of the selling price for either. However, I again might buy some from ya, if you had anything you thought I'd like.
Oh, BTW, I do kinda crave owning ONE really funny LOTR yaoi doujinshi. If you happen to have one you'd like to part with..... Sugar Darlin, featuring Aragorn in a wedding dress is my favorite of the ones I've seen.
