+++ The Doorway +++

Edward Elric was dreaming.

What was worse, he knew he was dreaming. Lucid dreaming, some doctors in a book somewhere called it. Knowing you're dreaming while you're dreaming and sometimes being able to affect the outcome.

Which, in this case, would be really really nice. Because he'd had this dream before and he didn't like it then. He hadn't liked it when he lived either.

He was standing in the vast whiteness that housed The Gate. The Doorway. The ultimate symbol of the hell he'd wreaked upon his brother with their pride.

It loomed above him as it always did, the signs and symbols on it staring down at him, as if accusing him for trespassing where winged angels feared to tread. He stared back at it, the familiar horror and awe that accompanied him every time he saw it filling his belly as he desperately tried to think of a way to affect this outcome, to change the ending of this dream before the doors opened and They reached out. The ones with the ravenous too full eyes, the wanting claws and the empty hallow sounds that they made as they reached out for him. For what he had and they lacked.

Too late, he swallowed, his throat suddenly parched as the giant doors began to move, rushing outward, towards him. Terror, his old familiar friend, echoed within as he braced, arms up to protect his head, for the dark tentacles of arms to reach out and grab him.

It didn't.

Cautiously, he lowered his arms, wary of an attack.

The black void that burned his eyes as much as sunlight was still there, but the voices were quiet. It did not move, the eyes were always there were muted, watching passively. As if waiting for something.

Or someone, he amended silently as a part of the darkness made itself known from the rest of the gloom.

It was a boy, not much older than himself, nor much taller. A swishing brown braid that ran past his waist was the most distinguishing feature about him, separating the black of his clothing from the void behind him. The boy stepped forward, a friendly smile with just a bit of a fang on his face.

Purple eyes sparkling with mischief as the boy freed himself from the darkness, stepping into the white light. Homunculus, Edward realised, with a sick twisted feeling in his gut. He'd thought most the Homunculus were dead, mainly by his own hand. Was someone else trying to resurrect the dead? He wasn't familiar with this one.

But there was no denying the fact that the person in front of him was Homunculus. It was hard to miss the ouroboros array on the brown haired boy's neck, right above the white patch on the front of his collar. Or the red lines that ran across the chest, looking like a priest's mantel.

A religious Homunculus? A small inane voice in the back of his head twittered. That was a new twist at least...

The boy looked around the white area with an easy grace, hands in pockets. The Homunculus at least didn't seem to want to kill him, Ed noted, apparently more curious about the surroundings than anything else. Finally silted eyes settled on him, the other boy stopping a few polite steps away. "Heya." He said cheerfully, as if glad to see Edward. Not at all homicidal, although appearances were oft deceiving.

Ed blinked. "Hi?"

The other boy grinned wider in response, apparently pleased with the response. Edward didn't get a chance to inquire further upon his guest; the white around them seemed to increase, drowning the other occupants in its haze. Edward struggled, attempting to see clearer as the light encompassed everything, gate and the strange braided boy fading from view as if he were being pulled away from the scene.

Edward sat up right in bed; returning to wakefulness like a near-drowning victim panting for breath, sweat covering his body as he gripped the sheets in a white knuckled grip. Stupid dreams. Stupid Gate. Stupid... who ever... what ever that was. A quick glance verified that at least Al was still sleeping undisturbed and he could feel his heart calm down at the familiar sight. At least one of them deserved a full night's rest.

He usually didn't dream like that. He usually didn't dream at all, except for nightmares. He plenty of those, more than he cared to think about it. But they'd never featured strange Homunculus before, least of all curious friendly ones.

Edward took a few more calming breaths, combing the gold hair out of his face as he did so, going over the dream in his head. It was nothing serious, he told himself. Nothing serious. His dreams had never come true in the past and they certainly weren't going to now. The damned Gate wasn't after the rest of him.

Which certainly would have been a reassuring mantra if he could just convince his gut that he -wasn't- going to meet that smiling Homunculus again...

Her request:
.....Ed opens a door violently, only to find a surprised someone on the other side, hand lifted to knock. Other person is around 156 - 160cm, long brown hair in a braid down to their ass, purple-ish eyes, all black clothing(long black sleeves) except for a white square at the throat..... and a half hidden Ourboros design behind the collar. Also some red dots/lines wherever. Just fyi - Duo's Blasphemy. (and with a soul!)

Yosh! Duo and Ed together, would be long before the Grin Reaper drove Ed to insanity. It'd be like "That Blasted Red Stone" with Hakuba ^.^
