Because the thought of the Hyuga (white eyes) Clan having a staring contest amuses us greatly.

When we went to Japan in April, we saw Astroboy EVERYWHERE. Shingo even has pictures of himself next to life-size statues of the cast of characters. And I still get part of the opening song stuck in my head cause it was playing all the time.

Then I was fortunate enough to get my hands on the first 12 episodes subbed. *purrrrrrrs*

The dub?

It's... okay.
I like how they did some of the voices. Tenma's voice is pretty cool. Atom... *scratches head* I don't think they stayed true to the original on him. He's a lot more innocent, lot more kind in the Japanese version. They're also showing the episodes out of order, going for the larger battles right away.

My nit-picks:
They don't call Atom, well, Atom. He's 'Astro' or 'Astroboy' All. The. Time. It kinda de-humanizes him in some ways. Like he can't be anything -other- than this miraculous robot. He can't just be a kid.

Atlas.
Dude... Atlas wasn't always a robot. He was a teenage punk, who died. His father breaks down, asks Tenma to build a replacement for his son, like he had heard Tenma did. The 'good' doctor does, and upon finding out that Atlas' father did much the same thing he did to Tobio (ignored him, etc), feeds that isolation and rage until Atlas goes berserker. Not that it takes much.
Atlas. Was. Human. That’s what makes him so dangerous.

Dunno... it's like they're missing the point.
Astroboy's not about cool robot battles. Yes, that's a part of it.
But it's more about humanity and hope for the future. And that's not just coming clear in the dub, IMHO.

Anyway, PYP knocked us over the head last night, gotta go do research on playing card meanings now...

The radio is interesting tonight.
First off, it's the weekly Richard Blade Flashback show, from 7 to Midnight. (at midnight, we switch over to the alternative station's weekly electronica show, which is where you get fics like Vampyre AU from). We tune in because he plays some really kickass 80s music that you normally don't hear.
But the radio station is in the process of moving to a new building. Which is causing some... interesting problems. Such as the phone lines for people to call in their requests being turned off.
They currently have a system where you call the station's hotline at the new building, where Becky then takes down 10 phone numbers, she calls Richard Blade, who then calls the people back to take requests. ^^;;
He's asking people not to cuss over the phone, since they can't exactly screen the calls at the moment.
But at 10:30, they're be dashing out of the current building, running down the street to the new building, then rushing into the new studio to continue the show. (panting and gasping, was his comment)
This'll be interesting... *Grins*

[EDIT 23:20]
-they decided not to change radio stations during the middle of the show. They'll do it sometime in the early morning.
The DJ's bummed, he thought it would be fun to go running down the street with a breifcase full of music CDs to open up a brand new station. ^___^
