I'm kinda bummed, went home by a slightly different route than normal and discovered that the only family run Grocery Store in the area was going out of business.
Not because of Big Bad Corporate America forcing out customers or anything like that, but because the people who owned the land decided they wanted to build condos there. ~_~. Is in Torrance, which means it's not rent controlled. (you're looking at $850+ minimum for the small one bedroom apartments. ouch)
*sighs* I have good memories of the place, it always smelled different than the big supermarkets, welcome, more friendly. Shopping was always nice too, always personal feeling. It helped that the place was probably built during the Great Depression, the outside is all deco-ish type, very cool looking.
Was also how I survived when I was un-employed a few years back and could only afford $10 a week for food. Bread, eggs and fresh produce was always reasonably priced.
... and on the slightly morbid plus side, all stock is now 50% off, so I can stock up on materials for Christmas baking now. ^^;; *squirrels food away*
Anyway. Must clean and get stuff together for going up to the desert this weekend. Neechan! Don't let me forget Yaiba again!!!
