Okay, first off, I'm anemic. Most common type, lack of iron in the blood. Found out about 2 years ago after we got head-butted by a truck and failed yet again to learn how to fly. (how to fly: throw yourself at the ground and miss)
Figured 'okay, whatever, no big deal, just means I can't give blood. No biggie.' My own fault anyway, I'm not a big meat eater. Isn't a big factor in my life, so forgot about it.

Then a few weeks ago we got some unexplained bruises. Large bruises. As in as long as my hand and about half as wide in several different places that we normally don't bruise. Didn't worry about it, I'm a klutz anyway. *shrugs* (don't worry about a lot of stuff, as you can see... *laughs* )
Last Friday, finally remembered that we're anemic when the bruises had only turned bright pretty colours (chartreuse and neon blue!) after a week and noticed that the we were really really drained. So started takeing vitamins.
Well, the bruises have faded from bright pretty colours to dull colours, but still really drained. (is not -tired-, there's a difference)

So did some research today on-line, to find out exactly what anemia is, and if that explained the bruises.

Well, it doesn't, but it explains several other things.

Such as fatigue (the drained feeling), irritability (see last night's post), weakness, decreased appetite, shortness of breath, headaches and depression, (-which I've actually noted in the journal and attributed to stress.) Pica, or unusual food cravings is another common sign. People who go after ice cubes after finishing their drink to suck on tend to be iron deficient, by the way. I was going after suck-on candy. Trying not to chew on my sharpie marker too much, those taste really bad when they explode and ball point pens snap too easily to be able to knaw on them. (yes, you -know- which pens are mine *laughs*)

Physical signs were harder to tell. Brittle nails and a pale/yellow skin tone are common, but seeing as I have really short nails and am normally pale with a gold skin tone, that's rather hard to notice... ^^;;
How ever, was really surprised to look in the mirror and find another sign, a pale blue tinge to the whites of my eyes. Scared a friend of mine with that today, was fun. ^_^

Lack of iron in the body means lack of red blood cells. Red blood cells are what move oxygen around in the body. No red blood cells, no oxygen. This also explains the lack of creativity on our part lately. We're brain fried! Literally! *Laughs!* (well, if your face turns blue when you can't breathe, makes sense that parts of your brain would too...)

Anyway, the funny part is that in researching anemia, stumbled upon some -causes- of it, and think we have figured out why we're anemic, is not my diet like I had thought, is a symptom of something else.
*falls over laughing* Something that could be considered an... inside joke. *rolls!* Hee hee hee hee hee My body hates iron! Hahahahaha!!! *curls up in a little ball snickering*

Best treatment for anemia is to take iron supplement, which we have been doing. Just need to remember to continue to do so. *chuckles*

Usually try not to post anything personal like this, but just found the whole thing highly amusing. And, well, if anyone else is anemic, *points up* There are some of the usual signs and how to take care of it.

Kinda relived too. When we stop laughing, that is. heeheeheeheehee
