Caught an advanced screening of 'The Chronicles of Riddick', the new Vin Diesel movie tonight. ^__^
One thing I didn't know about the movie until we actually got there was that it's a continuation of the movie 'Pitch Black'. Most of us hadn't seen the previous movie, but that was okay, seeing as the movie easily stood on its own.
Over all:
The movie was pretty good. I'm glad I saw it, and I'm even more glad it was free. ^^;;
Good points:
Costuming and Architecture. Just... daaaaaaaaaaang. Lovely textures, chainmail, worn metal, scales, bone. Details are wonderfully done. Nice fabrics on several of the non-warrior types too, before things go boom. On several outfits, there's what looks like vertebre coming down the back. Sets has a nice Roman-esque feel to it, reminds me of Janus, only Janus had 2 heads instead of 3.
There were also some very good one liners. I will never look at a tea cup quite the same way again.
Bad points:
Fight scenes: High Strobe Effect Warning. I missed quite a few of the fight scenes because I had to cover my eyes with my hands to keep my eyes from tearing too badly and fight off a headache.
The sad part is that I didn't miss much by doing so, the fight scenes are next to impossible to follow in any clear manner anyway. 'Riddick hits A, but B goes flying and what the hell is C doing, okay someone just died...'
Still, had a great deal of fun watching the movie and making snarky comments, it made for a nice evening.
Those with Perverted Minds: if anyone can tell me exactly where that mind probe went in, I would sincerely appreciate it. (the camera never did a rear view)

::snicker::
Date: 2004-06-10 08:21 am (UTC)I never saw Pitch Black how horror/icky/scary was it? Or was it just violent? I give myself nightmares with the films where the horror is of the lurking/leaping kind.
