Blaming [livejournal.com profile] ladyorla for the fact that Hakuba is currently quoting Monty Python in the latest Grey chapter.
Cause of that really funny Monty Python Quiz ^__^

So we're talking to Becky (HAPPY BIRTHDAY EVIL TWIN!!!) and realise that if this continues to go the way I think it's gonna go, we're gonna hafta do some research.
Research mainly consisting of watching some British Sci-Fi comedies, cause our knowledge of Dr. Who is mainly second hand and what we know of Red Dwarf is crooning "I'm going to eat you my popsie, I'm going to eat you~" which sounds damn funny but makes no sense.
Any suggestions? ^______^

Going on two weeks in Tucson, and hafta say it's interesting. The firetrucks are this odd colour that appears to be this cross between sage and lime green, people are honestly friendly (which is taking some major re-adjusting, keep wondering what everyone wants) and while the heat isn't so bad (yet), it's the dryness that keeps getting to me. Even with a water bottle (i'm using a pocari sweat bottle! XD ), a few hours of wandering around and running errands leaves me with an annoying dehydration headache. Understand this will go away as I get aclimated, or used to it, but in the mean time it's a pain.
But still, the desert is really very pretty. ^___^ *is happy* And the neighbour's cats have taken over my house as theirs, which is nice. Have missed having furry bodies around. >^.^<
... there's a mosquitoe hawk examining my toes... o_O

Oooh, dear.

Hakuba quoting Monty Python... Kaito ought to be nervous. ::snickers:: Oh. dear. I just had an image of a surprised Kaito in the midst of pulling rabbit out of his hat, and Akako grinning madly. Think Holy Grail and be afraid.

Or the Kid annoying Nakamori with the Knights Who Say Nie (how IS that spelled? nee? nie?)

British scifi... Babylon 5, Red Dwarf, Dr Who... Neverwhere was done by BBC - originally a Neil Gaimon story...

Nailed it in one, Hakuba's quoting Holy Grail. ^__^

"Knights who say 'Ni'!!"
Which is really kinda odd, because 'ni' is part of the japanese alphabet, so I don't think that joke would translate well...
They are later the knights who say "Ekky-ekky-ekky-ekky-z'Bang, zoom-Boing, z'nourrrwringmm"
Oh, fates... forgot about the 'chop down the tallest tree with a herring' line... o_o

Amazon.co.jp DOES have it for sale (http://www.amazon.co.jp/exec/obidos/ASIN/B00005R0RO/ref=pd_sim_dp_2/249-8356035-8672358) ^___^

And no worries on Kaito's part... he's doing blond jokes. ~_~

Neverwhere was done by the BBC? Schweet! That was a fun book!
Thank you!!!

If you're looking for classic British SF, then aside from Red Dwarf and Dr Who I could suggest Blake's 7, and almost anything by Gerry Anderson (UFO, Thunderbirds, Captain Scarlet, Space: 1999). Most of these aren't really COMEDIES (especially Blake's 7), but they are SF. If you want British comedies then aside from Monty Python there are other classics like The Young Ones (very anarchic and uh... yeah... anarchic comedy) and Blackadder.

It occurs to me that Kid might be a fan of The Saint original TV series, with Roger Moore - gentleman rogue who does good deeds by not necessarily ethical means? The books it was based on are a bit more hard-boiled than that. Don't talk to me about the movie.

Hee... speaking of RD... one of Cat's things is his song: "I'm going to eat you little fishies! I'm going to eat you little fishies! I'm going to eat you little fishies! Cos I like eating fish!" *snerks at Kid*

Oh, he'd have to be a fan. [livejournal.com profile] ysabet and [livejournal.com profile] ickaimp, your recent variations definitely ought to be a fan of Boston Blackie as well. It could give him hope for amusement, instead of tragedy, for "when it is done". A famous thief who successfully retired (ie not in jail), crooks and cops never totally believe Blackie's retired, and he ends up solving all kinds of mysteries for them - to keep his own hide intact, out of jail and especially to annoy his favorite police chief.

Hmmm... Boston Blackie, huh? I've heard of it, but only in passing. Where can I get copies of it? And speaking of which, just finished making your copies of FMA and will get 'em off in the mail tomorrow. Another junkie created... ^_____^ Remember, the first hit's free. **snicker**

Gah. Evil woman.
Regarding my own personal addiciton, Boston Blackie... I have found some of the old radio shows on cassette and CD. Check out your library and bookstore - many of the detective radio show collections have several episodes. I've buried my catalog, but the guys who do the collections also have a catalog somewhere where you can order specific shows, too. I'll say this "nummy voice".

I've heard of Blackadder in passing, never anything concrete about it. Hmm... (ha! local libary has it!)

*laughs* Yeah, the Saint sounds about right for Kid too. ^__^ *wiggles happily* The Plunnies! the Plunnies! (we read some of the books a few years ago)

Y'know, I bet Cat's song is where the 'I'm going to eat you my popsie' comes from. All I knew was that the line was a Red Dwarf reference. Thank you!

Go watch "Blackadder."
Do not eat or drink while doing so - you will probably do yourself harm. Sit on couch or floor - again, to avoid damage when you fall out of your chair. Oh, and try not to alarm the neighbors too much.
FYI - I am partial to the WWI set.

::snickers:: I am afraid to contemplate how this may warp you further...

Heh. My personal favourite is the second Black Adder series (set in the Elizabethan period), but they're all good. Episodes can be a bit variable, but on the whole...

Re: Cat's song - no problem! Soon RD will suck you in entirely and you will be helpless against it.

Haven't got much on video, but I do have both Red Dwarf books and even a couple of Dr. Who books. Have a decent selection of MP movies as well. Let me know :)

Icka? I have many ancient Doctor Who eps on VCR tape if you want to see 'em; haven't watched them in ages, but I think I still have an awful lot of them, particularly the Tom Baker eps. I even have a copy of the American Dr. Who movie rattling around somewhere... Jolly good, eh?

From: [identity profile] ickaimp.livejournal.com
I saw the American Dr. Who movie! Remember the crystal snake, the scarf bit *snickers* and him screaming "I. Have. Two. HEARTS!!"
-er, almost did a bad typo there... "i have two harts" #^^#

Tom Baker, that's the 4th Doctor, right?
still so clueless on Dr. Who, except for there's someone named Ace who blows stuff up. And you have to be very careful around those phonebooths because they're a lot bigger than they look.

British Humor

Speaking of British humor and good British fiction...

Ever read "Good Omens?" An absolutely lovely book by Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaimon, who I'm sure you've read, because to assume otherwise is unheard of. Because I want everybody on this list to read it, here's a few quotes for ya:

First, the back:

"We hear the world will end on a Saturday. Next Saturday, in fact. Just before dinner. Unfortunately, Sister Mary Loquacious of the Chattering Order has misplaced the Antichrist. The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse ride motorcycles. And the representatives from Heaven and Hell have decided they actually like the human race..."

And, for your viewing pleasure, the first page or so:

"Current theories on the creation of the Universe state that, if it was created at all and didn't just start, as it were, unofficially, it came into being between ten and twenty thousand million years ago. By the same token the earth is generally supposed to be about four and a half million years old.

These dates are incorrect.

Medieval Jewish scholars put the date of the creation at 3706 B.C. Greek Orthodox theologians put Creation as far back as 5508 B.C.

Archbishop James Usher ... suggested that the Heaven and the Earth were created in 4004 B.C. One of his aides took the calculation further, and was able to announce triumphantly that the Earth was created on Sunday the 21st of October, 4004 B.C., at exactly 9:00 A.M., because god liked to get work done early in the morning while he was feeling fresh.

This too was incorrect. By almost a quarter of an hour.

The whole business with the fossilized dinosaur skeletons was a joke the paleontologists haven't seen yet.

This proves two things:

Firstly, that god moves in extremely mysterious, not to say, circuitous ways. God does not play dice with the universe: He plays an ineffable game of his own devising, which might be compared, from the perspective of the other players,* to being involved in an obscure and complex version of poker in a pitch-dark room, with blank cards, for infinite stackes, with a Dealer who won't tell you the rules, and who smiles all the time.

Secondly, the Earth's a Libra.

The astrological prediction for Libra in the "Your Stars Today" column of the Tadfield Advertiser, on the day this history begins, reads as follows:

You may be feeling run down and always in the same old daily round. Home and family matters are highlighted and are hanging fire. Avoid unnecessary risks. A friend is important to you. Shelve major decisions until the way ahead seems clear. You may be vulnerable to a stomach upset today, so avoid salads. Help could come from an unexpected quarter.

This was perfectly correct on every count except for the bit about the salads.

*i.e., everybody"

If anyone doesn't want to read this absolutely marvelous book after that, I don't know what's wrong with you.

...plus, there's an angel and a demon who are just begging to be slashed.

Now, the challenge: how many quotes in that reminded you of Kid? And can you write a drabble/fic that fulfills every part of a random horoscope (or humorscope)-- except the bit about the salads?

I refuse to apologize for this post.

Thinking apologising in this case falls under the 'Never explain' clause. Yer friends don't need it and yer enemies won't believe you. ^___^

Heard about the book from several other people ( ¬_¬ Mati, Ysabet), but still haven't picked it up.
These teasers have definately caught my attention. I'll go read! I'll go read! ^__^ ((Huggles SummerCloud))

As far as the challenge... hmm... lemme see what we can do. No promises. ~_^
