[fic] Shinigami/Onikirimaru crossover
Mar. 19th, 2004 05:09 pmWe seem to be on a bit of a Shingami Stories kick lately, going back and drawing most of the characters again. (have Ran and Conan done, just finishing up Kazuha now)
Doesn't help that we're reading more deamon manga. *purrrrrrrrrrrrrs*
We like the youkai, in case you couldn't tell. ^^;;

"Don't look, Kazuha."
The ponytailed girl clasped both hands over her nose, looking faintly pale. "Too late."
"I told ya not to look." Heiji muttered, crouched beside the large and rather messy remains of what had been one of their fellow schoolmates. She kicked him in the butt in retaliation.
"S'the smell." She muttered. "It reeks."
"Tell me about it." He muttered darkly. "I didn't know that nose of yours was so sensitive, even when you're not all furry."
"This would have been hard to miss, even from the other side of campus." Which is where they had been when she'd first picked up the bitter-sweet scent of blood. She just hadn't expected this much blood.
"Anybody in the area ya know lookin' for a snack?" He asked, his tone casual despite the serious look on his face. "It looks like part of them got eaten. Either that or someone got here ahead of us."
"Probably the-" The word trailed off as she suddenly spun, her human guise fading away and her tail thwacking Heiji in the face.
"Hey!" He protested, his skin darkening as the adrenaline took over, bringing his oni-characteristics to the fore. Kazuha didn't drop her human guise lightly, sow what ever it was, it was most likely serious.
From a few paces a way, a teenage boy about their age watched them. He was dressed in a winter uniform, despite the fact that everyone else was in their lighter summer uniforms.
However, what stood out about the boy was not the way he was dressed, but the sheathed katana he held in one hand, the inhuman look in his eyes and the scent of blood that hovered around him like a foul perfume.
Kazuha stepped between the two boys, her arms outstretched. "He didn't do it." She growled.
One of Heiji's eyebrows rose. "Huh?"
"I know." The answering voice was low, almost a monotone and clear of the Kansai accent that marked the natives of the area. "The killer has been taken care of already."
"Wha-what?" Heiji started to rise to his feet, only to be stopped by a quick glare from Kazuha.
"Heiji. Stay -there-." There was a protective tone in her voice that brooked no arguments.
The other of Heiji's eyebrows rose. "Okay, what am I missing here?"
"His sword's name is Onikirimaru." Kazuha informed him, returning her defensive look towards the other boy, who hadn't moved, but looked slightly amused by her actions. "The Oni-killer."
"Oni-killer?!" This time Heiji visibly startled. He was still new to the world of youkai and bakemono and he was quite certain that he hadn't been told about a teenage boy with a sword that killed oni.
The boy laughed, not unkindly, in response. "I'm not here for him, Child of Okesa. There's no blood on his hands." The look turned calculating. "Now if that were to change-"
"Unlikely." Kazuha snapped. "Heiji's a Detective. He solves murders, not causes them."
"Hey-!" A second glare kept him from rising again, although Heiji's face did darken slightly.
The boy smiled at them again, gave them a slight salute and walked off, as if not expecting anyone to stop him. Which they didn't. Kazuha didn't move for several minutes after he'd left their sight, breathing a huge sigh of relief, her muscles suddenly loosing the tension she'd been holding.
Heiji rose, resting an hand on her shoulder and not protesting when she leaned back to rest against him. "Kazuha?"
"Sorry." She pulled his arm around her in a loose embrace. "Onikirimaru... He's a nameless oni who looks ningen. He's trying to become one by killing all the oni and so far he's undefeated."
He tightened his grip on her, giving her a gentle squeeze. "And you thought he was here for me?" Despite the fact that he was only a quarter oni.
"Something like that. We -are- standin' next to a bloody corpse..."
"Right." He nodded. "Speakin' of which, we'd better go report it." He relaxed, allowing the oni strength to fade away as Kazuha lost her fur, becoming soft skin again. They didn't move for a few moments, gaining a sense of peace and comfort from the contact.
"If Onikirimaru did take care of the murderer..." Kazuha sighed reluctantly as she finally stepped away from him. "We'd probably best be on the lookout for another corpse. Either Oni or ningen."
"Hmm." He nodded thoughtfully, giving the corpse one last look. "Kazuha?"
"Yah, Heiji?"
"After we get this cleared up, you and I are gonna sit down and have a long talk about just whoever else is out there that I need to know about..."

Ningen = Human
See 'Shinigami Stories: Today' for more notes.
You might recgonize 'Onikirimaru' by the name Viz gave it, "Ogre Slayer"
It's about a oni who looks human, he was born without a horn. Instead, his horn is his sword 'Onikirimaru' or 'Oni-Killer', which is the name he goes by until such a time that he kills all the oni in the world and becomes human.
Unfortunately, humans are constantly becoming oni thru cruel thoughts and deeds and the oni are constantly reproducing thru humans (and eating them). Therefore, he will probably never fullfil his task.
Fun series, lotsa blood and gore, good stories too.
