[fic] Kaito's got a secret
Dec. 26th, 2003 12:16 pmThe damn mule came back. *rubs back of head* Pardon us while we curl up in blankets and finish watching GundamWing while winds howl around the house.

Frances Marie, please gimme more info for a pic you would like. (you've seen how I am with fics/plunnies, it's way worse with pics. Having something to narrow down the feild helps major)
-Ami-: Got the characters sketched, but having a bit of trouble with the research for yours. Victorian or Baroque clothing?
That done, random ficcage
"I don't get it." Aoko muttered darkly.
Akako raised an elegant eyebrow. "Get what?"
"THEM!" The blue-eyed girl motioned towards where Hakuba and Kuroba were having, for lack of a better term, a pissing contest.
"What about it?" She tilted her head to the side. Kaito was not-quite sulking as Hakuba had a small, but pleased expression on his face. Looked normal to her.
"They're the two smartest kids in the class, if not the school. They've got a lot in common." Aoko ranted. "You'd think they'd get along better. Yet all they do is snipe at each other. Back and forth, all the time. It's irritating! And for no reason at all!"
"It's not for no reason at all." Akako corrected.
"Eh?" Aoko blinked, her blue eyes wide and confused. "It's not?"
"No." Akako smiled, resting her head on the back of a hand. "It's not. You see, Kaito-kun has a secret. One that you don't know about."
"He does?" The short haired girl looked surprised. She shook her head. "No, that's impossible. I've known Kaito most of my life. He doesn't have any secrets. He CAN'T keep secrets. Not for any length of time, anyway."
"Oh... you'd be amazed." Innocence was a rare quality to find nowadays, and it was refreshing to be around it. It was quite obvious why Kuroba held this one dear to him.
Aoko continued to look at her incredulously. Akako gave her a small, private grin in return.
"You see... Hakuba-kun thinks he knows Kaito-kun's secret. But he can't prove it."
"He can't?" Confusion reigned in Aoko's tone.
"No. And that is why Kaito-kun sulks and Hakuba-kun looks pleased."
"Oh..." Enlightenment dawned, then faded with the glory of a sunburst. "Why can't he prove it?"
"Because Kaito-kun is very very clever." A sad smirk played around the edges of her smile. "Very very clever. And too tricky to be caught."
Kuroba said something to Hakuba, and their expressions shifted. The Detective turned sullen as the magician perked up to his usual maniac self.
"Then why does Kaito tease him?" Aoko tilted her head, worry crossing her features. "I mean, Kaito teases -everyone-, but isn't it dangerous for him to tease Hakuba-kun like that if Hakuba-kun knows something that could hurt him?"
'Innocent' did not mean 'stupid'
"If he didn't, that would give Hakuba-kun the proof that he was correct, would it not?"
Aoko mused this over. "Kind of like when Kaito does his sleight-of-hand? You're busy looking at one hand, so you don't see what the other hand is doing?"
"Something like that." She agreed.
Hakuba made a soft comment, too quiet to be over heard, that made Kuroba's eyebrows twitch upwards in what might have been annoyance or amusement. The Magician retorted, making one of Hakuba's eyebrow twitch in obvious annoyance.
Words bounced back and forth like a ping-pong ball at a championship match, light and dark heads moving as they bantered, grins sharp and eyes narrowed in friendly rivalry.
The blue-eyed girl woke her out of revere, frowning slightly as pieces fell together in her head. "You know his secret too, don't you?"
"Hmmm." She nodded, not denying it. "You could say that."
"So why doesn't he banter with you like he does Hakuba-kun?"
A bittersweet smile formed on her face, confusing the other girl further. "Because I did something very very selfish. I hurt him once, and someone close to him another time." Large blue eyes watched her with worry and concern. "He forgave me, actually." Her smile turned less bitter, more wistful. "Both times. But I won't hurt him again, not if I have a choice. And he knows it, so we leave each other alone."
Aoko thought about this for a moment, her eyebrows coming down in a thoughtful expression.
"So Kaito has a secret, that he won't tell me about."
"Yes."
"So Hakuba-kun knows Kaito's got a secret, can't prove it, but flaunts it, which is why Kaito teases him so much."
"Yes."
"And you know Kaito-kun's secret, can prove it, but don't tease him about it, so the two of you have a truce."
"Yup."
"So can you tell me Kaito's secret?"
"No."
"Damn."
-fin-
Plunnie spawned off a japanese fanart of Hakuba looking rather smug and Kaito looking very annoyed.
Then we had a wonderful moment of duh-ness and forgot what the heck we were typing. (*scroll up* I -wrote- THIS?! o_O )
which explains the lack of amusing ending.
*shrugs, wanders off*
Happy Boxing Day!!!

Date: 2003-12-27 08:08 pm (UTC)Thanks! Corrected the typos. ^^;;
Am not the greatest writer by a long shot, and having the errors pointed out helps a lot.
Am currently highly annoyed with self about this fic because remembered last night that there was a fun line/pun about 'short hairs' and someone having someone else's. *sighs*
Forgetting wording sucks.
Thanks for the complements! Hope you get a few laughs over what you find here! ^__^
