Okita Souji/Soushi

ickaimpOkay... went to write an actual DC fic instead of MK fic for the first time in a while.
Wanted to involve Heiji and Kazuha and a joke we've been meaning to pull for a while.
Decided to throw Okita in it, because we like Yaiba and obscure characters and we've wanted to play with him for a while.
... then the question came up, is Okita is first name or family name?
So talked to
Loqi (welcome to the addiction!) and did some quick searching on-line and discovered one very scary fact.
He's a character in Rurouni Kenshin.
*ba bum bum*
Naw, actually, once we got past the "Kenshin? Oroo?" reflex, did some more quick digging.
Only to discover we stepped into a whole bunch more than we expected! @_@
First off, DC's Okita is the 6th generation descendant of the Captain of the First Troop of the Shinsen-gumi, protectors of Kyoto during the Meiji Revolution. Okita who was a masterswords man who died at age 25 of Tuberculosis, known for always having a smile on his face and playing with kids in his spare time. Probably to make up for a childhood spent in the dojo. His sword was named Kikuichi Norimune.
Now all of a sudden, DC's Okita is making a bit more sense, aside from the fact that he's a very skilled swordsman and Heiji's rival.
Okita has 3 trademarks, or things that make him unique from the 'Kudo-clone' mold.
1: The ponytail at the base of his neck.
2: His white haori with the blue jagged pattern on the edges.
3: He takes his sword with him -everywhere-. You never see him without it.
And yes, he does seem to smile a lot.
-the original Okita's haori was blue with white jagged edges, so DC's is flipped for some reason. Lower rank?
There's also an ongoing debate on the romanji of his given name, if it's Souji or Soushi, depending on how the character was pronounced at that time.

*sighs* In the meantime, original story is on hold while we do some research. ^^;; Accursed Plunnies. Just WATCH, he'll show up in a later fic too. (actually, he's been scheduled to appear in the last of the western au fics ^^;;)
