It has now taken a half hour for my body temp to rise from 96.3f to a stable 97.0f.
-My family runs on the cool side, but not that cool.

I have a cold. Going back to bed. Kthxbai

[edit: I'm usually 97.5-ish.

Stayed home, drank lots, slept lots, trying to clean out the sinius. Blarg. Thanks to everyone who posted!]

Only if you're naturally that way. The mouth isn't an accurate place to take a temp, due to many factors.

The best if of course, rectal temp, but baring that, I generally use the under the armpit method as it (besides my navel*) is the only place .6I've gotten the traditional 98.6.

For an armpit test, make sure the prope tip is centered in the crease, hold your arm down tight, and then add a degree to whatever it says

(* I was sick with H1N1, bored and had a themomoter to play with...what else was I supposed to do but take the temputure of odd body parts?)

*hugs* I hope you feel better soon!

Oddly enough, that's the normal temp range for half my family.

Meh; 98.6 is a human average, people tend to forget that. I run as low as 96.5 for normal-- it's why my hands are almost always freezing. That kept showing up in tests while I was going through chemo to the point that some kind soul finally wrote it in my records.

Mint tea and sleep, Icka; and get well soon!

I tend to run a little cool myself and I have measured 96.8 when I'm not sick, so don't think you have anything to worry about. Just bundle up and drink some hot tea. Hot tea, surprisingly, helps make a lot of things better.

97.0 is fairly normal for me. Perhaps that's why [livejournal.com profile] jasonmperry70 keeps telling me my feet are like ice cubes ("Froze Toes," as we've come to call them...lol). On the flip side, Vincent normally stays around 99.0.

Another randomly cool temp person here. In my case it is a small part due to a sedentary lifestyle. And for odd temp readings, with an ear thermometer I've had as much as 5 degrees difference between my ears.

As for why you are sick and without a fever it is more likely you have a virus. There is an old saying 'Starve a cold, feed a fever' unless I'm very mistaken about that. But with a cold virus you are denying it the resources it needs, while with a fever your body is trying to burn out the infection so you need fuel. But PLEASE get a proper diagnosis rather than my opinion for it.

Still, feel better soon.

If it significantly below your normal temperature (which does vary person to person) then it can be an indication that your ill. Rather than running a fever to kill the germs its probably an indication that you are tired. It's only really worrisome if you had symptoms of hypothermia :)
