Winding Down

Okay, made it back to Tucson safely. And in 6 1/2 hours even, due in thanks to a short cut that friends pointed out, N's mad driving skills and loud Gaelic music. Although now Hakuba is wandering around in my head singing Do Virgins Taste Better (than those who are not?), which is more than I wish to contemplate at the moment.
So wrap-up for the past... 10 days?

Haunted Hotels aside, an interesting town. I don't think I've ever really been that close to a border town, and it definitely has an interesting feel to it. It's kind of odd, look across the Rio Grande (which to call it a 'river' at this point would be too kind of a complement) or the train tracks or the random large fence along the side of the freeway and realise that it's an ENTIRELY DIFFERENT COUNTRY.
... that doesn't look all that much different from the one you're in, just maybe a bit more haphazard in layout and buildings and speaks a different language.
Massive thanks go to Omar and Zada for breakfast and the tour of El Paso. It was interesting, getting politics from a local point of view. That big Drug Fight on the other side of the border that the news was hyping? The general consensus was that things'll be fine as long as we don't bring in armed forces on our side, because that's just asking for trouble. As long as we don't get paranoid and start shooting, it'll stay on that side of the fence.
And if it doesn't? Well, this is Texas. Everyone has a gun. Or two.
-then conversation shifted to the latest firearms friends have gotten recently. It was a good visit.

My hometown, I still can't get over how big it's gotten. Did a lot of walking around downtown, picked up a pair of silver Koshare earrings, so now have smiling faces hanging from my ears. Reminds me of Impmon, same smiley face and horns. Picked up an Easter dress for the first time in years, alight green silk mandarin dress in my size. >D
Yesterday was 'get hit on by drunks' day, including a young guy whose boyfriend is either to New York or Dallas and had a huge crush on Edward from Twilight, because his hair stuck up so high. And he's 'sho pretty'.
Had breakfast this morning with an old friend of the family. Was... dunno. Not good, not bad. Mixed feelings on that.
Anyway, need sleep, wanna work on something fannish, but almost feels like I've forgotten how. *falls over*
