So, insert massive spazzing on my end.

Auntie Icka's got a job as a travelling salesman. woman. whatever. Extension of the Bridal Show job, selling crystal, china and kick-ass kitchen stuff across the States. And maybe Canada.

OMG I HAVE TO DRESS FORMALLY.

-Anyone got any suggestions for formal / business outfits that pack small?
Things to do with long hair other than shove it all back in a ponytail? My hair is roughly 27 inches long, which makes ponytails kinda heavy ^^;; But! That's a lot of hair to play with!

Also! Job starts and I fly out of Phoenix the morning Monday, 16 Feb. THE DAY ESTRELLA ENDS. Which means I have to get ready and pack for both Estrella War and getting ready for new job.

Spaz, Icka, Spaz.

Note to self: Remove knives from backpack -before- going to airport...

Congrats on the job!! *is so happy one of us has found one in this economy*

Icka do you have layers cut in your hair? Because that would help and let you leave your hair down while looking professional. You could keep the length but have them shape it so it doesn't just hang.
I know a ponytail or a bun seriously aren't an option for you (plus I always find a little trim now and then helps it grow faster for at least half a year).

Whoo-hoo! Thank you! That's exactly the kind of stuff I was looking for!

I love having long hair, love having my hair played with, but I'm afraid I'm not really good at a lot of hairstyles. As long as it's outta my face, I'm generally happy. ^^;;

Congrats on the job! Sounds neat, especially with the paid travel and the formal dressing and whatnot.

Not sure about the hair thing... I have trouble with that myself. Long, but really wavy. Also being male limits options a bit. I tend to alternate between 'low ponytail' and 'slightly less low ponytail', which gets a bit boring really.

Congratualtions! I hope you have a lot of fun with your new job. And if you're ever in the Houston area... ^_^
Well, for dress, one nice suit (a dark color, I think, with a nice cut) and a couple of different blouses. The whole look of a suit (nearly typed shit for some reason) can be changed by the look of the blouses. Always keeps a kit with clean undergarmets in your carry-on (in case your luggage gets lost) and maybe a spare shirt.
Can't say anything about the hair. I went from this (http://s38.photobucket.com/albums/e131/Ytak2/?action=view&current=compsite.jpg) to this (http://picasaweb.google.com/laetapuella/2008_07_2024MyHair?authkey=8wCrxyItaqE#) and have not looked back except to ask why didn't I do it sooner.

Woo-hoo!

My suggestions for formal without excessive baggage:

One really nice dark colored (neutral) suit. You and I have a similar problem (or over endowment) Buy the jacket to fit your bust have the sides tailored (I'm sure someone in the SCA can help) You probably want a nice three button jacket to contain the girls. You probably want a suit with a pant and skirt option. Get one extra set of slacks with a different patern like a pin stripe or a hounds tooth. 2-3 blouses and a sweater set with an extra shell. That gives you a lot of mix and match pieces but its 7 to 8 pieces and all can pack down easily except the jacket. Then lots of undergarments and something to wear not on duty.

1 Jacket
2 pairs of slacks
1 skirt
1 sweater set
1 shell
2-3 blouses

Oh and scarves - they really dress up and change an outfit if you like that look.

I may have a book on long hair styles that did not get ganked in the great break in of 2007 - I'll take a look :) But braiding and half-up half down is probably your best bet.

I just picked up a nice black jacket today (with chinese knot buttons that I am giggling madly over. China!) and one random patterned blouse.

I have one long black skirt, didn't find any slacks that fit well during today's run to Savers. Hadn't thought of the different colour, that's a good idea.

A 'sweater set' is a long sleeved sweater over a sleeveless shirt of the same material?

*squee* Thank you!

YAY AWESOME JOB! If you're ever in Louisiana and have free time, drop me a message. We'll have fun.

I have no idea about formal things that pack small, but invest in a tiny handheld steamer if you don't already have one. They're awesome. And re hair: ... lots of clippy thingies? Or braids/buns. Which could get heavy too.

Congratulations!

I second [livejournal.com profile] shade_scribbler's suggestions, and add that you should also add a couple of neutral jewelry pieces, as well. One set in gold, and one in silver. Also, a wristwatch. Also, a low heel (I usually go with about 2") are a necessity. Make sure you pack some sort of flat as well, though! (Me? About the accessory? Noooo...) But she's definitely right about shirts and jackets - fit the widest part of you first, tailor everything else down. Oh! And most noteworthy - make sure that your slacks/jacket/skirt are roughly the same shade of black or grey or whatever. At least such that they don't look substantially different under fluorescent lights.

As for hair, a simple French braid works well and isn't quite so heavy when it starts lower on the head. (Less Lara Croft, more...well, I don't have a point of reference for this.) Also, invest in clips - they will be a lifesaver! (My own hair isn't quite so long as yours, but my mother's is longer. Half-up, half-down is also a very good, professional look, especially with a nice clip or barrette.
