The clock says that it's just after 10. I think it's lying. It's got to be closer to midnight or something.

In case people were wondering what else I can draw other than anime, artwork I did for the barony's newsletter, based off a Russian Illumination of Peter and Paul. The emblems on the top corners are our Posadnik and Posadnitsa's heraldry and the symbol in the centre is the Kingdom of Atenveldt sun. ^__^ The Barony's heraldry is a Boar's head, hence the Boar-men.

-Friday-
Got up early to go swimming with the Boss and Xan with a friend of the Boss. Xan wasn't too sure about the water, but eventually got used to it and liked splashing. Both Boss and I forgot to put lotion on our shoulders and kinda burned. Yeouch.
Kyra Kai picked me up after work and dropped me off at Megs' house, then I curled up and wrote, finishing a fic and posting it. Megs got home and we stayed up talking, I posted more fic and crashed just after 2am.

-Saterday-
Atenvelt Arts and Sciences Collegium! \o/ Megs and I got up early to make it there by 8:05, even though Troll opened at 8:30. They started early, Megs took care of her entrance, I got Kyra Kai's since she couldn't make it. (Thank you again!) Then we had breakfast.
Learned how to make Kohl --it goes ON your eyeball! @_@-- and Bedouin Dress robes --totally need to make, this is a desert-- and got a run-by by the current Chronicler for the Tusker Times. Evidently, the artwork I submitted can't be used for cover art because I'm not warranted-? *Scratches head* Okay-? I'm getting really confused. Anyway. No more grand art pieces from me, they don't look as good when small.
Went to a chinese buffet for lunch with Johannes and Megs. We got asked if we were making a movie, since we were still in Garb. #^^# But, we had Mongolian, Middle Eastern and European clothing, so a good cross section there.
And THEN! When we get back, Johannes heads off to the priv and gets jumped by a roving court and given his Award of Arms! That's -Lord- Johannes now! \o/ and yes, he got to the priv
Ended up talking to the Heralds for an hour, poking at Johannes' heraldry (which should pass) and what I would potentially like as mine. Was going to go for a blue flame, like an oni-bi, but discovered that Flames in heraldry are tricky. However, when I commented on what I wanted for my original heraldry, the winged squid that was delicately hinted that I don't do during my time in Southron Gaard, all three Heralds squealed and jumped on it. @_@ It's legal. So I'm gonna re-draw it, make it a little less phallic and go for that. Now I need a name!
Learned a lot though, the Heralds were fun to talk to.
Then learned Monkey Fist Knots, and was going to do the Developing a Middle Eastern persona and ended up talking to people and missed it. Ah, well.

Realised belatedly that all my clothing was in Megs' car when she left for work in the mid-afternoon, leaving me crashing at Johannes with no clothing save what I was wearing until morning. ^^;; Whoops. See? This is why I carry a pair of clean underwear in my backpack, along with deodorant, toothbrush and hairbrush.
So went with Linda and the Princess to Savers and picked up a lab coat, a white pillow case, a chinese brocade pillow case, a shirt and surprisingly enough, a pair of shorts that tie off at the knee. I haven't worn shorts in years. ._. Keep seeing bare calf and freaking out, it's like I'm wearing bloomers and forgot my skirts. Admittedly, they do look okay.
-the fun part was haggling the cashier down to half-price for the shorts, cause the button on the waistband had torn out. XD Fixed now.

-Sunday-
Megs managed to lock herself out of her house, so we went to rescue her. Went to the first class, Byzantine Accessories a bit late, and "naked" (ie: without garb, in mundane clothing), but it was a fun class. Shiny bits! Jewellery! Megs showed up for Beginning Herbalism, I got my clothing and quickly got dressed for the class.
... I think it would have been a better class if one girl had decided not to ramble about where she lived and let the people who were teaching talk. *shrugs* Fortunately, it's one of the things Ysabet knows, so both Megs and I are borrowing books from her.
Lunch, then 'Murder, Scandal and Intrigue: Life in the Harem', by the same lady who taught about Kohl, Sayyida Sibilla Jadi Fatima al-Ishfahani al-Samarkandiyya. In the future, I'm gonna track down what classes she teaches and go to them, she's GOOD. And an -excellent- story teller.

Ysabet, Megs and I left after that, so we had some down time before Xan's first birthday party. We got back later than I think any of us would have wished and now we're all kind of at that sleepy giddy stage.

You have to be warranted to submit art to their newsletter???!!1 WTFBBQ.

Someone's let the bureaucracy go to their head, there.

Head of the bureacracy here...WTFBBQ???

You don't need a warrant to submit art work?!

HMMMM...must talk with my chronicler.

Yay!

She is my apprentice, and getting this sort of feedback on her is great! Thanks.

Evidently I have to be warranted for it to be the -Cover Art-. It was placed elsewhere in the Tusker. Which is fine, I don't think the details for that particular piece will look as good small, but it's okay.

But for something that went from 'draw pretty stuff and submit it' to 'you need to talk to Debvorah first' and her telling me 'You need to talk to Ivan and Ianuk first' and the chronicler telling me 'You need a warrant for cover art' I'm beginning to understand why it's so blasted hard to get artwork for the Tusker Times!

Not to mention the submission rules is a massive WTF. 600 DPI?! And does anyone -use- Floppy Disks anymore?!

Anyway. *rubs eyes* Apologies for the ranting. I'm not interested in getting embroiled in anything political or complex, I just want to be helpful and art was one way I was repeatedly beat over the head informed I can be. In the meantime, this lets me know my limitations in what to draw and art is still needed for the Tusker, so I'll stick to drawing simpler things that will look good when tiny. No biggie.

Well, what I'm saying is that the procedure is not set in stone (except for the scan that is needed for a good print). I'm going to talk with out chronicler to get her side of the issue and get some rules settled because none of this sounds right at all.

BTW, Devora will be stopping doing cover art for the Tusker when we step down as she has been doing it for years and wants to stop at the end of our reign. Also, she's not warranted either.

Devora did a class on submitting cover art one time, several years ago and she didn't say anything about needing a warrant. Obviously there's been some confusion here somewhere, but it should be pretty quick to clear up. My impression has always been that no one submits cover art because Devora always does it, and Devora always does it because no one else does. And I'm sure the submission rules have not been looked or overhauled for for MANY years, because, hey look, Devora did cover art we don't have to worry about it!

She's a *damn* good teacher and speaker; I also attended that class, and made it a point to tell her afterwards that she needs to write professionally-- I'd buy her stuff and read it. She has a true storyteller's knack of holding her audience's attention and a fine sense of timing. I honestly enjoyed listening to her, and I'd do so again! ^__^

*laughs* That's good to know, cause like I said, it went from something simple to suddenly a warrant being involved and I'm rather confused.
Thank you! ((Hugs!))

Erk, sorry about the deleted post. Basically the same as below, just adding that I'm still going to keep drawing stuff for the Tusker, will just do less-detailed art. I really shouldn't respond to comments before morning tea. ^^;;

I know Devora is burnt out and will be stopping at the end of your reign, but I'm still not entirely sure when that is, or if there's a procedure or something or if there's other people to do the art that haven't spoken up yet.
Just minor confusion on my part, nothing usual with that. #^^#

I cannot see why the locals here would object to the winged squid for your heraldry. I really liked it - its just so you. *Hugs*

It's one of the wierd ways in which the SCA (US) interacts with the rest of the world (SCANZ, SCAA, SKA, the other SCA incorporations), and why most of us in the non north american kingdoms now have separate incorporations to filter out the paperwork and excess bureaucracy - you guys sure do need paperwork for everything, and sometimes it gets a little obsessive - I've never in 17 years of playing SCA heard of a warrant needed to submit anything to a kingdom (or any other) newsletter, which wierded me out. I think a lot of the confusion when those of us from the European, Australian and New Zealand bits of the SCA interact with the main chunk in the US, is due to very differing legal systems which are often mutually incomprehensible.

It was suggested several times that I find something more... appropriate for my heraldry. Which was one of the reasons why I was so adamant about it. XD

Am finding the SCA experience to be much different in Tir Ysgithr... The whole list of 'Things Icka! Can't Do In the SCA' I had growing in Southron Gaard has been thrown entirely out the window, and in some cases, encouraged to do. Very weird.

((HUGS)) Glad to hear from you! Was wondering how things were going down under.

That's part of the confusion here too. To my, or the people I've talked to in the barony's knowledge, there never has been any paperwork or warrants required to submit artwork or articles to the newsletter.

Yeah, there's a definite culture difference between the two. There are a few things I still do in playing the game that freak a few people out here, but that's the way I play the game - I'm a firm believer in allowing people to play SCA in their own way.

...Was wondering how things were going down under.

Its been a nutsy-cuckoo semester since I returned from Vietnam. Will post a catch up entry soon, until recently there's been more to write about than time to write it. The big news is that they made me Baronial Seneschal - now I'm sorta in charge of this crazy outfit. Wish me luck...
