Um... brief summary....
Meet Kudo Shin'ichi, High School Detective, love of the media, idol of fainting screaming fangirls everywhere.
Meet Ran, who cares about Shin'ichi, whom Shin'ichi keeps close to him so he can ignore her.
Meet the poor substitute teacher who is taking the class out on a field trip on a boat. Shin'ichi's bored. Field trips are for children.
Meet the kidnapper who writes a warning letter to Kudo Shin'ichi, saying he's gonna kidnap someone from Shin'ichi's class during the field trip.
Meet an interested Shin'ichi.
Meet the School Chaperone, who's a total babe and whom half the class hits on.
Meet the Ship's Captain, who's a busy man and doesn't want to be disturbed by the noisy students. Meet the Crew Member, who has to deal with the students.
Meet Sonoko, Ran's best friend. She's a little boy crazy and a bit envious of Ran and Shin'ichi's lovely married relationship. She tries to flirt with the Crew Member on the boat and gets turned down. She gets sea-sick and taken to the sick room.
Where she gets kidnapped and possibly tossed overboard. Oops.
Meet a distraught Ran and a furious Shin'ichi, who tells Ran about the letter. Whoops. Some game, eh Kudo?
Meet the police investigator who is in charge of the case and doesn't like things not done by the book. Such as teenage detectives butting into his business.
Meet Megure who says 'Sorry kid, there's nothing I can do, yer on yer own'.
Meet a second letter from the kidnapper, saying they'll grab one of the students in Shin'ichi's class at Noon, neener neener neener.
Meet the dozens of police officers who are guarding a room at a hotel, where the students from Shin'ichi's class are gathered.
Meet a letter to Ran, with a key in it. Oh, noes.
Meet Mouri Kogoro, who is stuck in the Seventies, if his little disco moments while attempting to reassure the students that all is well are any indication.
Mouri, meet Mr. Door. Out you go. Buh-bye.
Meet the frantic classmates at Noon as they're locked in a large room surrounded by policemen, knowing that one of them is about to disappear.
Meet the School Chaperone, the Captain and the Crew Member, hanging around outside. Phone ring and the Captain and the Crew Member leave.
Panic Panic Panic. Lights go out. People scream. Lights go on. Ran is missing.
Shin'ichi, you idiot. She was Holding. Your. Hand.
Moron.
Insert panicking on the parts of Mouri and Shin'ichi. Wait, there's a note. Oh, Ran's being held with Sonoko. There's a bomb where they are. And hey look, there's this weird red ink on one of the doors.
Meet Ran and Sonoko, tied up in a warehouse together. How romantic. Ran frees herself, then wakes Sonoko up. Eek, there's a bomb. And there's a window that has some wood nailed in front of it.
Meet Ran's karate. Ran's Karate, you SUCK. (as our resident martial arts practitioner was pointing out, she wasn't even kicking properly.)
Ran, you also suck. There's LOTS of decently sized stuff you could pick up and use to bash the window and you proceed to screw up your leg. But hey, you've now discovered that you're up on the third story. Good for you.
Meet Sonoko scaling down the wall. Meet Ran with the rope tied around her waist, bracing herself with her legs, both injured and not, to hold Sonoko's weight. See Ran pass out as soon as Sonoko hits the ground. See previous comment about stuff laying around the warehouse. The rope is also long enough to dangle quite a bit of the rope, she couldn't have tied it around one of the metal pillars behind her? Stupid script. Grrrr.
Meet the bad guy as Sonoko attempts to flee, after swearing she'll get Shin'ichi. Sonoko, meet Bad Guy's fist. G'night Sonoko.
Meet the dangling dead corpse of the Ship's Captian, with a note saying he did it. Meet misspelling on the note.
Meet the missing note when the police arrive.
Meet Shin'ichi's bit of detective work, and narrowing Ran's location down to five places.
Meet Kogoro, who agrees to check out the locations.
Meet the Police Inspector in charge of the case who doesn't want to help. That's fine with Kogoro, he'll show that walking coronary the pride of someone who doesn't have a large organised government network can do.
Meet various warehouses. Nope, not the right one. Not that one either. Oh, look. There it is.
Meet the School Chaperone who was the one who did it. Revenge against Shin'ichi for capturing her boyfriend, who then died in Jail. Oh, look. There's the missing note. Shin'ichi was stealing crime scene evidence. Bad Shin'ichi.
Meet Mr. Gun. Hello Mr. Gun, we're just gonna go inside the warehouse with the bomb in it just like you say.
Meet Ran again. Long time no see. Oh, you're still unconscious. That's okay, Shin'ichi slips in a grope until the camera changes to a close up shot. Mr. Gun shoots the key that's the only way out of the warehouse. Oh noes, we're all gonna die. Because School Chaperone can't just shoot Shin'ichi, because it would hurt Ran less not to be left behind.
Meet Mouri. Mouri heard the gunshot.
Meet Mr. Broken Window Sonoko Escaped Out of.
Meet Mr. Deus Ex Machina, a random soccer ball laying around.
Meet Mouri playing hoops, wanting to know if Shin'ichi can come out and play as he tries to toss the soccer ball through the window. Go Mouri, Go! Yatta! He did it.
See Shin'ichi kick the ball into the School Chaperone. School Chaperone fall down go boom.
Meet Mr. Bomb. Mr. Bomb is only minutes from explosion. Mr. Bomb only has white wires. Boo. School Chaperone made it so that it couldn't be dismantled, even she doesn't know how to disarm it.
Meet Mr. Skylight. Mr. Bomb goes through Mr. Skylight, with the help of Mr. Soccer ball.
Meet Explosion.
Meet the randomly flying by Kaitou Kid, whose white undies are no long quite so white as he wonders who the heck just tried to blow him out of the sky.
Meet a happy ending, except for Mouri and Shin'ichi who get a lecture from the Police Investigator in charge of the case for taking crime scene evidence and not sharing it with the Police. Bad Shin'ichi.
Meet Tropical Land.
Meet Genta, Ayumi and Mitsuhiko running around.
Meet first season animation as Ran's boots suddenly become sneakers and break a lace and Shin'ichi get shrunk down into Conan.
Meet Conan. Hi, Conan. Nice series ya got here. Bit long, isn't it?
