Yaoi Cliches

In YaoiLand, there is a very, strange twisted sort of logic. Such as smex makes everything better.

But there are certain cliches, laws and rules that get passed around, followed, cackled over and gleefully broken. Such as the Height Rule. (tallest one tops). The Grumpy Uke. Silver Hair = Psychotic.

What other YaoiLand cliches are out there?

1. Glasses are hot, and probably confer yaoidom. Labcoats likewise. (Ysabet)
2. The Uke always cries (even if it's Jounouchi). (This one's from Dogmatix)
3. SOMEBODY is going to be given chocolate sooner or later, usually to the wrong person and/or by the wrong person. It's usually either late or at the last minute. (Ysabet)
4. If one male uses the '-chan' suffix to refer to another male, one or both of 'em qualify for Yaoidom. (Dogmatix)
5. A cold, callous demeanor means they top. Sorry, that's just how it is. I mean, Gravitation? Saiyuki? Executive Committee? Hello? We could talk about Kaiba too, but never mind. (Ysabet)

7. If two male characters hate each other's guts and want to see each other DIE IN AN EVIL WAY, they're secretly lusting after each other. Yup. (Ysabet)

9. If there's an older brother of the heroine, he's probably eyeing the heroine's love-interest in a speculative way. Watch him. (Ysabet)
10. If they can cook, there's at least a 50% chance that they're gay. If they can cook WELL, it's a given. (Dogmatix)

12. No girlfriend + feminine personality + can't fight worth a damn but stays with the group anyway = probably gay. (Dogmatix)

Ukes blush. All the time. Especially when they're doing That.

The uke always fights the relationship with his words but his eyes say "yes, yes, yes!"

-Age rule (generally, the older tops).
-Illness, mainly colds from stuck in rain or exposure, will be taken advantage of.
-Being drunk is an excuse to be assaulted or do crazy things.
-Senpai/superior/teachers/any position of power ripe for abuse (generally) of kouhai/subordinate/students/person under care.
-Although obviously not into having sex, just a shy/affectionate kiss from the uke is taken as a go head to the seme.
-Victims all actually enjoy being raped and will appreciate/forgive the seme for his love after the act.

3. Uke Tears, Uke Smile, and Uke Blush can [and do] turn 'straight' men gay
4. Womanizer = Seme
5. Women in Yaoiland are almost always Evil.
6. If they aren't Evil, then they're mistaken to be the seme's Love Interest by the uke, when it's usually just a relative.
7. Childhood Friends often have 'Unrequited' Love for each other and inevitably end up together.
8. Unrequited Love is never really unrequited.

i'm sure there's more...but those are a few that i see a lot. this is amusing ^^

Ayame, from Fruits Basket. Yup. He has long white hair and is not, so far as I can tell, either a child-raping secretive murderer with a hidden, bloody past or a nonhuman, obsessive creature with a hidden agenda wearing a human form to cloak his evil plans; nope. There will always be a male matchmaker involved in getting two guys together.
All females in yaoi manga's will either be irritating or trivial characters.
Uke's will always be dominated by female characters.
There will always be angst in the story. Probably done by the uke.

Not sure if cliches but have noticed these 2 things quite a bit:

1) Uke will go from fully clothed to naked fast as lightning and the clothes will disappear without a trace; meanwhile the seme's undressing means he got his pants unzipped in time.

2) Seme is a sexpert even if it's his first time!!!
