back home thank the fates
Jul. 9th, 2005 04:15 pmTrain to LA had a minor break down in the engine yesterday. Was talking to a passenger, joking about the ride out here, saying I hoped that this was the end of the train problems back home.
She informed me that I shouldn't fly or take the train for a while, to go by bus.
Kinda wondering if she knew something I don't.
Amtrak:
Bad News:
Due to impending hurricane, the train was only going to San Antoinio Texas instead of all the way to Florida. Which most people didn't get the phone call about. They were one coach car short of normal. No observation car either. Lots of screaming kids. Irritated/Angry adults. Full passenger load. 7 hours late to the first stop, which is only 45 minutes away.
Schedualed time of arrival: 12:30am.
Actual time of arrival: Around 8am.
-which is impressive due to the delay in Yuma, due to a passenger having a minor stroke and the other standard delays. (freight train traffic, freight trains breaking down on the major tracks, conductor having to be replaced...)
Good News:
No one killed anyone. Seriously. Feel sorry for the employees tho. They put up with a lot of abuse.
*chuckles* Actually, was a better trip out here than going to LA, oddities aside. The kid in the seats in front of me is an anime fan, so we ended up in the dining car which they converted part of into a lounge area, watching King of Bandit Jing OVAs on the laptop (much to the jealousy of many people) and AMVs.
When his mom said 'fuck this' (literally), got off at Palm Springs and took the train back to LA, curled up in the woman's changing room --which is one of the few places with an electrical outlet-- and read FMA, KKM, DC scanlations and various fanfics for the majority of the night. (dude, Meg, starting to see why you like KKM so much, even if it -is- shojou.) And having random people stop in and talk to me, telling me their and their children's life stories. (wanna reeeeeeeeead)
Amount of sleep from when we woke up 5:30 Friday Morning until we got home around 9am this morning:
Approx One Hour. In three 15-20 minute intervols. Clutching laptop like a teddy bear. >D Preciouuuuuuuuuus.
So have slept for 5 hours, still dragging but up and moving because my brain's thinking in HTML and wants to re-design the Kid Reference page, because of a random pic we drew during the AMV contest that Voices think would be neat for new menu art.
No coffee. Bugger.
And we're heading off to see Howl's Moving Castle as soon as MOrgan gets off work. *happy*
Yes, we're rambling and can't spell. Don't care. So Nyah. *todders off*
