Sometimes when I look at something, it appears more fantastical than it really is. Part of it is an overactive imagination, part of it is my vision getting worse. Keeps life interesting.
So usual modus operandi is to not dismiss the first impression and wait to see if it changes into something else. So a corpse in an alleyway turns into an overflowing rubbish bag stuffed with clothing, a zombie kitten is a non-moving dead cat, a magical girl transformation key is a piece of glass, and a visor from a knight's helm is a...
No, wait. That one was real.
Yeah. Turns out it was plastic, from a children's play armour, but it's a visor from a knight's helm.
Which brings up the thought, how did it get there? If it was metal, that was. Fallen off during a battle with an elf in the crossroads? The remains of an encounter with a dragon? Fallen off the back of a motorcycle?
-So I'm telling Xan and Xan's Mom about this as we're driving through Tucson and I glance over at the car next to us. The driver, dressed in hawaiian shirt, worn straw hat, smoking a cigar, has a nose that would make Cyrano de Bergerac jealous.
Double check. Yup. Long nose.
...It's rubber. I grinned and he tipped his hat back to me with a smile.
