Weekend Retort:

Nothing highly exciting to report for this weekend. Went down to Seirra Vista for the Mons A&S compeitition, witnessed one of the fastest Royal Court I have ever seen. We're talking a little under five minutes. (walk in, open royal court, announce Egan and Meadhbh as the next Baron and Baroness, is-there-any-business-for-the-court-there-is-no-business-for-the-court, end court) Discussed stuff for Southern Crusades and tossed around ideas for the cover, need to do some research for it.

Am also rather distressed to hear that they're cutting back hospitality for Estrella. 'Cutting Back' as in slashing the budget and taking away their cart that delivers food to the people working Security on the far out posts. As someone who has worked the Watch for the past two years, this really Not A Good Thing. When you're working Front Gate after midnight with no shelter, or one of the other remote gates with shelter, them rolling up with hot chocolate and soup is really about the only thing that keeps ya awake and going.

Especially since with the sole exception of the one night Johannes had the comm and did frequent radio check-ins, Hospitality was more likely to find out if something went wrong at a post before the rest of the Watch did, especially when a radio dies. Am giving serious thought to if I want to volunteer for the Watch this year if there are no Hospitality visits. Without that safety net, leaning strongly towards 'No'.

[Edit: ysabet has a conversation with one of the Mains here. Evidently they're restructuring the Watch so there is no one at Front Gate, or any of the far points, thus removing the need for Hospitality to have a cart.
I'd still like to see how they're structuring it this year before saying yea or nay to volunteering.]

Anyway. Party at Lann and Abby's was fun. Tried some of the booze. Menthol liquor is something that really should only be drunk in small moderation, with lots of stuff to cut it. The Butterscotch schnapps were pretty good though. And of course, Pear Cider is excellent. Megs is fun after a bottle of that. ^__^ *runs away!*

Today, I kinda died. Slept for 10 hours, woke up, made tea, slept for 4 more. Read the rest of the day, just now getting around to writing. But in the mean time, having a fun time discussing Phantom Thieves as the bastard children of Pirates and Ninjas with Candy and figuring out how long it would take for Heiji to get to the Shin-Osaka station from the Higashi-Neyagawa station. (one hour and ¥480)
