I'm gonna burn in a bad bad place.

So I was thinking.... In Japan, you have a lot of live action historical tv series, highlighting various figures and eras. Last time I was there, it was all about the Shinsengumi, and currently it's Sakamoto Ryoma in the Bakumatsu period.

Obviously by the popularity, it's good TV and it's a way of bringing Japanese history to life, give people a way to know and be proud of their heritage.

Why don't we do this in the US? Think about it. "Founding Fathers - The TV series." Make it like one of those popular modern Crime Dramas. Or like Firefly.

You have internationally jet-setting playboy Ben Franklin, the go to guy for strange possibly illegal things, smuggler John Handcock, web-comic artist and sculptor Paul Revere, the fans are off slashing Alexander Hamilton and Aaron Burr even though there's -nothing- going on, and Washington and his second-in-command Jefferson are trying to keep everyone together to get this Revolution going.

The bat-shyte insane fandom would be EPIC. /o\

Please write this XP

Please?

No one said it had to be a TV series... you can just make a small novel that then gets picked up by FOX and runs for 20000000 seasons.

*wisenods brightly*

That sounds like the coolest thing EVER.

If it's anything like Tudors it can be full of sexy to boot.

I don't even read fandom stuff and I would read this on. don't forget the epic saga of slave families. and some perspective from the native Americans. Even the french get some time. I would love to see more on the women of the revolution. we don't get much of that.

You write it. I'll watch it and fanfic it.

[identity profile] wren-chan.livejournal.com 2010-04-15 03:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh it will definitely be full of sexy. THe Founders were bright young things, except for Ben who was way way WAY cooler than Casanova. WRITE THIS.
(Also, hancock does not have a d in it)

Maybe that was intentional? *is shot*

True, it IS the Lube Fairy we're talking about here...

They do, sort of. It tends to be the biographical docu-drama, mini-series or movie though. They sometimes make it onto national broadcast tv. Mostly they wind up on cable (HBO/Showtime) or PBS and get overlooked until award shows 'cause there's way too much out on the airwaves clamoring for some sliver of attention.

Sassy!

It's amazing how goddamn interesting history becomes when we remember there were *people* in it!

[identity profile] morgan-idril.livejournal.com 2010-04-15 06:40 pm (UTC)(link)
The problem that I see is that Japan is much closer to its history than the US is, in fact the US is busy shoving its past away since parts of it is embarrassing and heaven forbid there are white males involved. And yes there is embarrassing as the Europeans were not politically correct in their invasion of the northern American continent

[identity profile] morgan-idril.livejournal.com 2010-04-15 07:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Sigh... thought I had beta'd myself, guess not. Please to excuse very poor end sentence. ought to have been 'there is embarrassing behavior' or some such. I am preaching to the choir here I know.

......Ben Franklin would be slashed with everybody. Absolutely everybody. And now we know why he's always smiling on the $100 bill.

This would ROCK.

Franklin was The Man. I can't deny that. The French, especially, loved him.

I would watch the fuck outta that show. It sounds amazing.

[delurk]

Sorry, I lurk around here a lot, and having just read the translation of the chapter...

All I can say is, I was totally expecting a cage to drop down over the 'space reserved' spot. And noooo, Gosho totally isn't stalking you. *Referring to the picture you drew after the last face off between them*

Because wouldn't that be the high-tech equivilant of a box, stick, and string?

[/delurk]

*headdesk and laughs* You going to pitch the idea to a network? I think there is some real potential there. :)

[identity profile] poe-nui.livejournal.com 2010-04-18 05:50 am (UTC)(link)
*giggling madly* Honestly, it could work... The shenanigans and personal drama wouldn't need embellishing. For example, Benedict Arnold was The best field commander on either side - this acknowledge by British Army in letters to the King. He was so dedicated he used personal funds to care for troops when Continental Congress got snotty about paying and wasn't properly reimbursed. His wife liked her amenities and was pro-Brit. The war was damn near won by the colonies when Arnold gave/sold the plans for West Point to the Brits. The guy (Major Andre) he was caught passing the plans to was his wife's lover.
*grins*

Icka- tis K-boy's mama!

[identity profile] prophetella.livejournal.com 2010-04-19 06:13 pm (UTC)(link)
OMG. yes, yes it would be epic.
Right now the closest that has come is the kids cartoon series with the founding father's and the history of the revolution with the thre MAry sue characters in it all over the damn place.

Maybe crack!fic that fandom and encourage the live action stuff... IT would so have to be a cable channel item.

[identity profile] skyechan.livejournal.com 2010-04-20 03:01 am (UTC)(link)
LOL!

This just raises the question: Have you ever watched the musical 1776? I think that caused quite a few American historical figure slashers based on what I've seen. xD;;
