Weekend Retort. Sorta.

So the Healthy Family lady is here and helping us make a toy for Xan involving a water bottle and various things that float and sink in it. But we had to think of things to put into it.

Enter... Crazy Auntie Icka!'s Bag O' Holding

From the bag:
1 plastic water bottle
8 clear plastic beads
1 fake turquoise bead
13 fake jewels
1 mini rubber pirate devil ducky
1 broken lanyard
1 luggage lock (minus key)
1 hopper popper painted like a yellow baseball.

-the last three didn't go in. Surprisingly, 3 of the beads float, the rest --including the rubber ducky-- do not. *pokes bottle* The grown-ups are confuzzled. Waiting for Xan to wake up from his nap to see what he thinks of it.

Anyway. We were going to do a Murder Mystery this weekend, but everyone was feeling very blah, so we called it a dead weekend and didn't do much. I curled up and got some writing done. Two longfics down to the final scenes! \o/ Yay for clearing backlog!
Did stop by Savers and got a new skirt for free because of the fist-size hole in one seam. A few minutes mending and it's as good as new.
... Am continuously amazed at how few people seem to know how to mend or sew these days. Out of curiosity, Scadians and Tiffany aside, how many people can sew? How many can't? (I can hand sew, but blow up sewing machines. boom, thread and bobbins everywhere. s'not pretty.)

Not on f-list but I can sew to mend things, haven't yet gotten into the big stuff.

*raises hand* I can sew, but only simple stuff--mending, repairing seams, etc. Nothing fancy. In middle school, we took a sewing class where our final project was to make a pair of boxers, which we then proudly wore over our pants for the rest of the day. But I actually do a fair amount of sewing when piecing together a knitting project :D

...I want the pirate devil duckie! :D

What's a popper? And how old is Xan again? :O

I can mend when I'm not lazy (I think...) and sewing w/ an actual machine isn't too bad. I could get better at it with more practice, surely.

I've been doing a lot of handsewing lately. I have two cabinet sewing machines with knee switches and a Babylock, yet I sit on the couch in front of the tv with a needle thread most of the time. Of course what I've made the most of lately is garb for Waffle and Lolly (the Build-A-Bear frog and bear respectively I drag around and take pictures of)and my excuse is that stuff is small and fiddly and just easier to do by hand.

*jumps up and down waving arms* I know how to sew! These days, I don't do it too often outside of making cosplay but I have made a number of shirts and a blanket.

I can sew a bit--quite well enough to do up something like that. I keep meaning to learn to use a sewing machine. And I knit all my own scarfs!

I can do a bit of hand sewing. Made hand sewn stuffed animals for my grandparents for Christmas. Also do machine sewing to make cosplay stuff (as can be seen on the top of my lj). Not too sure how good I would be at mending, though. >.>

I figured out how to sew a button and have been sewing seams back together recently, but I'm really not confident that I get the seams right.

... I've used a sewing machine to make sketch books?

*I have no excuse for not knowing much though, my mum is really into quilting!*

................ Bottle with mysterious things in it! \o/ Win!

I can sew! Both hand and machine, as long as someone sets the machine up. Mostly I make pillow and sew stuff back together, like teddy bears.

I can hand-sew well enough, if I don't get impatient. It's been years since I used a sewing machine, but I probably can still do it.

I can sew. Mostly by hand, although I'm learning how to use a machine. I can also knit (poorly), and embroider (not so poorly). I can even darn socks, which has everyone baffled. Since no one taught me how, but I figured it out anyway.

Although it was a matter of learning in self defense. There was a uniform in high school, and there was an evil bench in the locker room that somehow tore my hem out on a regular basis. I got tired of pinning it and poking myself, super glue washes out after a few runs in the washer, and so does tape. I sewed it. Sometimes as often as three times a week. I'm very good at hems. Strangely enough, it only tore out the stitching, never the fabric. And yes, I stitched sturdy enough. By senior year, I was using heavy duty thread for upholstery, and knotting at every stitch, and it still got ripped out by that one evil little bench. I wasn't it's only victim either.

Hah! It was a murder mystery; the weekend was dead, so obviously it was murdered. Unless the weekend killed itself and disguised it as a murder?

Lurker here, to answer your question and to let you know that I too can sew. Of course I've only ever used machines that were older that I am, which makes things a bit difficult. They always start smoking before I remember to oil the gears. *sigh*

Beads? beads??? *walks to corner, squats and tries to muffle pervy laughter*

sorry... anyone know the best way to quit coffee?

heh. Sounds like my stuff bag. Permanent contents: bandaids, tin of Burt's Bees healing cream, bottle of Japanese Cherry Blossom lotion, about 8 or 9 pads, 3 tiny pens, and a flashlight. Random contents: notebook containing my want list, cell phone, yaoi manga, cds, necklace, jewelry supplies, fantasy or science fiction novel, chocolate, and a half-frozen water bottle.
