[fic] MaLoki: Tea Time

For some really odd reason, the part of the bike frame that holds the seat post on my bike broke this morning on the way to work. *snap!* just like a wish bone.
The Irony that this was on the way to work from a vacation has not slipped our attention. ^^;; Hello, Kami-sama? Yeah, we got the message, thanks. We find new job.

"YAMATO NADESHIKO!"

"Eeek!" Mayura let out a startled scream as she stared at the enthusiastically shouting guest entering the Enjaku Detective Agency. "It's Kaitou Freyr!!!"

Freyr paused with one foot in the hallway, looking much like a startled fish. Behind him, Heimdall stopped just short of running into the larger god's back as Yamino shut the front door and vanished like a snake into the grass of his homelands.

"No it's not." Loki intervened calmly, walking towards his guests.

"He's not?!"

"I'm not?!"

Identical looks of surprise and shock were mirrored on Freyr and Mayura's faces.

"No." Loki reiterated. "Because Kaitou Freyr has a cloak, and this Freyr does not."

Which was true. Yamino had taken his cloak when he greeted them at the door.

"And if he WAS Kaitou Freyr, we'd have to call the police and then he'd miss having tea with Mayura-san." The small Trickster god smiled benevolently at the Fertility god.

While Freyr was not at all known for the use of his brains, Freyr had not survived for this many millennia without picking up at least -some- survival skills.

"Right!" He beamed, taking Mayura's hand and bowing over it. "'Tis Freyr's pleasure to meet you, my fair maiden." He said formally.

"No, No, the pleasure is all mine." Mayura blushed, smiling back at him. "I'm always happy to meet Loki-kun's friends."

"'Friends'?" Heimdall echoed, only slightly sarcastic as he stepped from behind the love-struck Freyr to stand beside the still benevolently smiling Loki. Loki 'accidentally' stepped on his foot. Heimdall winced, biting off a particularly vile curse.

"Who invited you anyway?" Loki muttered under his breath, the comment at odds with the calm mask across his face.

"What the hell are you up to this time?" Heimdall shot him a dark look, setting his sore foot down. "Inviting Freyr to tea, it sounds fishy to me."

"Not at all." Loki ushered the group to the living room as Mayura and Freyr bounced and chatted with each other in an animated fashion about cloaks as fashion accessories. "Freyr's the one with the fish fetish, not me."

Heimdall glowered silently and dogged his heels, sitting down next to Loki at the small table. Yamino appeared by magic, silently setting a place for Heimdall as well and serving tea and cake.

Things progressed nicely for a while, Loki smiling like a satisfied father whose children were playing well while Heimdall sulked and tried to figure out when the trap was going to spring. The other two happily talked about everything and everything under the sun, the subject flitting here and there like a butterfly in the wind.

It was about the time Mayura and Freyr got into a conversation about if flying pigs really meant the end of the world when the pieces fell into place.

"... You're playing matchmaker?"

Loki smiled angelically. "They really do suit each other very well, don’t you think?"

"Perfectly." Extremely well.

Too well.

A feeling of dread curled up in the pit of Heimdall’s stomach.

"If they're like this, just imagine what their kids would be like." Loki added idly, taking a sip of tea to cover a grin.

Heimdall paused, the possibilities running through his brain.

And more possibilities ran through his brain.

He finally shuddered, shooting the still peacefully smiling Trickster God a dark look.

"You really -are- trying to bring about the end the world, aren't you?"

-fin-

And a very random scene from listening to music:

"Well..." Hakuba said thoughtfully. "Look at it this way. There's always plenty more fish in the sea."

Kaito gave him a look of pure disbelief. "Aoko just ran off with Akako and you're trying to feed me THAT old line?!"

"Oh." Hakuba looked rather contrite as he mused it over, belatedly remembering Kaito's fish phobia. "Well, if it's any consolation, I didn't see it coming either."

"...thanks..."
