I have to admit, with the Magic Kaito anime, I'm still kind of judging--mostly because I agree with your points about the art style and the lack of cohesion in some moments.

I just don't get why they couldn't go with the style Detective Conan has already established for these characters O_o unless it wasn't the same studio, but if not, they still got the same voice actors. Hm...
