I've traced my mother back (through maternal then paternal lines) to the Cullison clan of Scotland in the 1500's. We apparently came over with the fishermen to the colonies and never left. Had more trouble with grandpere's paternal line as we run smack into Ellis Island and name changing. Apparently, Loeffler is not Great Grandpere's real last name (and if I can find that, I can find out our ancestors in Germany).
Pere's line is harder as his family is all Ohio farmers and their record keeping is not as good, though I did find out that Beaulha is a family name that's been passed down (Grandmere's name on pere's side).
Intresting notes though: The Cullison side always dies either tragically young or lives forever (80-100), Two sisters married two brothers of related families on their side (could explain some of the problems of my generation), One of my great x5 grandmother's was named Effie (and I don't know why this is intresting, I'm just in love with that name).
I use geneology.com, but I think that's a part of ancestory.com. Generally I just cruise forums of the sites to add branches to my tree and try to get help from others regarding the Ellis island and farmers problems.
