[drabble] Kami Kaitou
So I'm beating my head against the proverbial brick wall when Mati asks if we can write a drabble.
Kami-Kaitou, helping someone against bullies and/or to hide/find something.
Extra points for mentioning being warded off by fish.
spirit/ghost/kami Thief.
+++
Depending on where he traveled in the world, he was known by many names.
Raven by some. Coyote by others. Loki by yet a third people.
But no matter where he went, he was cursed by some, blessed by others. Which was fair, really. His gifts were both blessing and curse.
That was the way of a teacher in all honesty. And his was the school of hard knocks.
So to some extent, he could -understand- when people were annoyed at him.
But really, that was no reason to cover his favourite shrine in his least favourite food.
Ugh. Fish.
-fin-
And back to wrestling with Aoko. *sighs*

In Response to Tdei's
At least it was after school hours, there was no one else around. He really shouldn't have been here, but this was IMPORTANT. "Usagi-Kami-Sama?"
He got no response, but he really wasn't -expecting- one, but part of him still -hoped- for one. He crept a little farther into the shrine, nearly stepping on the fish that he'd waved off at the Kami.
The Kami didn't like fish. Hakuba didn't completely blame it, after a few days a fish could make any place really stink. He reached into his school bag, pulling out a notebook and ripping out a sheet of blank lined paper. Wrinkling his nose at the smell, he wrapped the remains of fish up in the paper, setting his bag down to do so.
"I'll be right back." He announced to the air, carrying the fish out of the shrine. He glanced around, then tossed the fish into the bushes off to one side, along with the paper. It wasn't -really- littering, a kitsune or a tanuki could eat the fish.
Hakuba crept back inside the shrine. It could use a cleaning, but he didn't have the time to do so, no matter how much he'd like to as a thanks. The fish would have to do. "I didn't thank you for saving me." He called, fidgeting with the band-aid on the back of his elbow. "So. Um. Thank you."
There was no response again, the shrine being empty except for the faint coo of pigeons on the rooftop. There'd been a lot fewer of them lately, but he'd also noticed a hawk had recently moved into the area. He'd spent one lunch break simply watching the predator glide up in the sky far above, wishing he could fly like that.
"I..." He trailed off, looking down at the ground. He tried again. "I... I'm sorry."
He sniffed. Boys didn't cry. He hadn't cried when they had been beating him, hitting him or hurting him. Not a single tear. He wasn't going to start now.
Hakuba quickly scrubbed his face with the back of an arm, then distracted himself by kneeling and reaching into his bag again. "This is for you." He announced, pulling out a book and holding it out. "Since you said you liked the books and all."
Again, no response. "I'm... just going to put it with the rest of the books, okay?" He informed the spirit. Not waiting for an answer this time, he scurried over to where the precious stack of books was hidden, knelt down and added it to the pile.
He got the vague sense of something being -there-, watching him over his shoulder. Nothing bad, just... curious.
"You can keep them." He said. "All of them. It's okay... It's okay cause..." He sniffed again, feeling his eyes get hot. He would -not- cry. "I'm not coming back anymore." He whispered.
The wind rustled the leaves in the trees outside, filling in the silence. The pigeons were silent now.
"... Mum's taking me to live with her. Cause of the fight. So now... So I'm going to be going to school in England."
He didn't want to go. He -liked- Japan, even if he didn't fit in. Even if he didn't have any real friends. Or that people thought he was a freak. This was Home. And England was far away.
"So, um. Thank you for saving me. And Sir Stinky." He hesitated, not wanting to leave just yet. But he had to get home, he still had to pack his stuff and have dinner before they departed.
He sort of wished he could stay here. It was peaceful here. It was nice and dry too. And the spirit was good company too.
It was silent again, but it wasn't a bad kind of silence. It was the kind of silence that had drawn him here in the first place. Comfortable.
But he had to go.
Hakuba got up, pausing in front of the altar, clapped his hands twice and bowed. He then picked up his bag and scurried out.
"Bye."

It's "C'est la vie" for future reference.
Also, it's perfectly fine if you do that kind of thing XD This is a free-for-all AU fic, apparently. No one's going to object to your doing something with it, I don't think ^___^;;;
